Don't loosen them at all, just grind the bearing away and knock the
    Cool. Don't suppose you're near Nottingham? ;-)

Thanks for all your help everyone. No doubt I'll be back next weekend when I
have no success! Looking at the task of removing that old bearing, (
    http://www.hpjw.co.uk/temp/awpoo.htm ) I really can't see that being
possible (by me!). What is the order of removing bits? Race, balls, inner
    bit outer bit?

He knows you know! so if you can get away with not loosening the casing
bolts so much the better. It removes the risk of oil leaks. Just be
careful to get an appropriate size drift, large deep sockets work, and
start it in gently and squarely.

    Eiron says...
Mine are fine, now. When I took the exhaust off for the first time four
of them sheared and needed inserts fitting. I removed the exhaust 2
years later and they were all fine except one of the originals which
came out easily without damaging the thread when drilled. I make a point
of cracking them back and retightening every now and then.

Maybe they do, I don't know cos I haven't needed to try. The front
calipers on my 600 are the simple sliding type 2 pot items and they're
bloody fantastic, I won't bother changing them if I put a 750 in because
they're more than up to the job, in fact they are miles better than the
6 pot Tokicos my ZX-9R had. All I have done to mine is bleed them
properly and put HH pads[1] in, the braided lines were fitted before I
    bought it.

[1] Not my first choice of pad but they were dirt cheap and work very
well but they are wearing the discs. The discs on the bike were 75% worn
out anyway, so I wasn't too bothered about the expected disc wear. When
the time comes it'll get Vesrah JLs or Carbone Lorraine SBK3s biting on
    new discs.

This cuntish imbecile once again proves he knows **** all about bikes!

To remove bearings from any Jap engine, you must split the casings, and once
you have paid to replace any obviously worn parts, and a gasket set, it
would probably have been cheaper to get hold of an s/h engine as I
    originally suggested!

The calipers on Steph's GSX750F (89 model) are identical to early GSXR750s
and IIRC the 600F has the same brakes.

Wonder how many times you have sucessfullly skimmed brake discs, which have
still remained within the service limit specs?

Not unless they've moved Nottingham to Scotland and put it next door
to the Grangemouth refinery where I'm currently working.

If I was going to be home for more than a day or two over the next few
weeks I might have been able to help out but no can do at the moment.

I'm on the move tomorrow so I accept no responsibility for any
incidents that may occur when they put the unit back into production.
We've been working on the hydrocracker so the rest of the plant is a
mystery to me. It just looks like a heap of pipework, heat exchangers,
    valves and pressure vessels.
