Hit by a car...

Was leaving work this arvo, travelling up between a row of parked
cars and a row of moving cars, when one decides he need's my lane
more than I do... merges quite happily into me! He managed to bend my
right footpeg right back, a nasty gouge on his car as a result.
I managed to stay upright, and parked rather shakily.

We exchanged business cards, him admitting fault, but that might be
another story when tis time for him to pay for a replacement footpeg
    assembly.

I'm now left wondering whether he'll pay up or not,
and considering whether i try bashing the footpeg back into shape
or buying a new one. Don't know about other bikes, but on the
CT-110 both left and right footpegs are a one piece assembly
running from one side to the other and bolted to the bottom of the
    engine case.

price the new part , give him a call and tell him how much and ask when you
    can
    the money for it ??

then try your best at bending it back

at least you are all ok and have survived

Pinch the money out of his Christmas cards. That's what Pat would do.

I believe the coppers only bother to bend down and grab the forms (hey it's
a freakin' big effort!) iff you're injured from the accident. Otherwise
they'ld roll their eyes and tell you to bugger off.

I had a similar accident too, except it was with a truck. Initially, the
driver said that he'ld pay for the damages. But when I called him up at that
night, the dickhead's intention changed to partially contributing to the
repairs. He insisted that he just didn't see me and therefore it wasn't his
fault. Anyhow I followed normal procedures like sending him the repair quote
and helmet replacement (do restrain yourself from threats though). In the
end, I got a lawyer and made a settlement (+3 months later). It costed his
insurance $6000+ from the $3000 that I've originally asked for (I only got
$2500 back). I think what made the difference was that I had a witness (she
was behind me at the time of the accident and saw the whole thing)
supporting my case. Otherwise, I'ld imagine it would have dragged on longer.

The ordeal prompted me to get full comp insurance, but even that was a
    headache too.

    Anyhow good luck!

The broken footpeg will be a lot cheaper than the repair bill for the door.
Even with the grief replacing the footpeg assembly I reckon the combination
of an uninjured rider and a cage driver who will look properly next time
makes for a pretty good outcome for the good guys. If it didn't happen, the
next bike encounter that cage driver had might have been a lot worse.

Not too long ago I was in a car accident. I wasn't driving, but the car I
was in was hit from behind - numbskull behind thought it was more
interesting to watch what was happening on the footpath (bike accident had
just occurred) rather than where she was going. She had no insurance and the
car was a writeoff. No injuries.

Coppers were very helpful indeed. In my experience, about half the times I
(or someone in my family) have needed to consult with them, the police have
been quite good. The other half they were decidedly useless
(understatement). 'S funny, no in between.

    Well good news!
I faxed Redwing Honda about costs for replacement parts yesterday, faxed and
emailed the dude who knocked me this morning about the cost to repair the
    lot.
Got an email back this arvo saying, No worries, what's your address, will
    send you a bank cheque...
    !

I'm quite relieved it has gone as smoothly as this, I've heard some horror
    stories.
Looks like it'll work out well in the end tho. Its the first time I've been
hit by a car since getting my L's in January, so a bit of a wakeup call
    really.
I've been extra careful in terms of looking at what cars are doing around me
    today!

I'm glad I stayed upright, one of the first thoughts to whizz through my
head after was, "Gee, I'm glad I don't have to buy a new helmet!"
All up the repairs will only cost just over $100, so I'm not surprised he's
going to pay out of his own pocket rather than insurance.

    Cheers,
    Adrian

If you are thinking of bending it back into shape, make sure you take it off the
    bike
first as the mounts aren't that solid on a ct110 when you start hitting it with
    a hammer

Don't make me come over there! >:-|

Actually, it looks as though I'll be spending a fortnight or so in
Brissie starting on the 13th of January. I'm definitely getting there
aboard The Jackal this time though, being marooned in Toowoomba/Tweed
Heads without my own transport really sucked!
