Mike, I am so glad that you are not more seriously hurt and am sorry
you got hurt at all. I really don't like welcoming new members to our
elite group, "The Deerslayers" but now you're one of the few, the
    proud... and the gimpy.
I'm also sorry about your motorcycle but motorcycles can be replaced,
    you can't.
I also know what you mean about not seeing those damn forest rats,
until the last second. They can come out of nowhere and change your
    life in an instant.
We have a lot of bikers flying up and down the highway out front of
our Cisco farm. They run full bore, at all hours of the day & night.
Not long ago one met a deer. There were no survivors. I cringe every
time I see or hear one go by at 70+mph, especially at night. Deer and
wild hogs are over populated around here.

Our prayers are with you for a swift and complete recovery.

Hey Mike-in-Dallas: Oh yeah, you were lucky. Glad you made it out with
all your limbs, and just look, you're on here tellin about it, days
after it happended. (perhaps, the Lord was riding with'ya)

When we rode in the Hiil Country last year, I was flabber gasted, at
seeing so many dead deer along a ride we made.
From Bandera west and north and around to Media, about a 75 mile circle,
we counted anywhere from 8 to 12 dead deer.

Over here where I live, I might count one dead'n a ''Year''.
However around the Linden-Jefferson area...those rednecks say..the area
is infested with deer. nThey call it somekind of a deer ''traveling
    trail''...hmm.
We ride there often, and do see a few. Rarely see a dead one.
Maybe those folks harvest the dead ones quickly, and that's why I dont
    see any dead ones.

But in the Hill country, those Mom and Pops little stores, told us it is
seriously infested, in that particular area.
Down there they have six foot fences along the roads in some areas.
I guess to keep the Deer from crossing, or: they wanna keep 'em fenced
in to shoot em, come deer season.
We saw herds of Deer, as if they raised them around there. HeHe)
Mike, Glad you were wearing the full face helmet......a true
testamony/example of how important ''head gear'' is. JayT.

==well Jerry, we did see miles of 6 foot fences along both sides of
the road,we could not explain why?
Do you know why, or do you even wonder why?
We did see herds of Deer, inside the fences. perhaps those herds/
groups of deer, also noticed how many dead ones were along the sides
of the roads, and maybe most didnt care to glide over the Short six
    foot fences, reckon.
I have a friend who has a Doberman, and he told me once. ''Willie.
Bubba (The Doberman) dont know he can easily jump our 6 foot fence, he
    just dont know it.''
(maybe most of the Deer in the Herds, didnt know they could easily
jump over the fences) hehe hail' I dont know, I just report
    stuff, on here. JayT=

Depends on how you define herd I guess. I've seen groups of 15 or 20
whitetails roaming together, does and yearlings. No way in hell a 6 foot
fence stops a whitetail. hogs and axis deer maybe.

Few years ago on a vacation with the kids about this time of year, I
drove from Iraan to Menard. If I had been driving a refrigerated truck
of some sort, I've no doubt i coulda stacked that fucker plumb full of
deer meat from all the deer on the side of the roads. Seems the side of
the road was the only place there was any green grass. I plan on going
back one day in my big huge 1985 Ford dually, after I weld me up a solid
bumper out of some 10 inch C channel.

==they walked like regular east texas Deer, they were about the same
size, they did appear to be a family like bunch...so I dont know. They
did look like they were not in a hurry....hehe.....just grazing.

So, you've seen an irregular amount of dear Deer, in that area?
I been riding the rural roads, since 73...never saw that many dead Deer.
Not that many totally since' 73. (g)
BiffB,at times, we were riding along about 35-40 mph. ( Being extra
cautious, I gess) But, Bikes zipped by us, and we met bIkes coming and
riding 55-70mph, we decided to ''Hook em''.....we thought those guys
aint worried....we went on, and it was an enjoyable ride.
\Around here, If see one dead Deer by the road side...where I often
ride.... it stays on my mind for a few days. JayT=

I'm just glad you are alive and not in a body cast or worse! This
should be a wake up to wear all the gear all the time. But that's just
me! I've had too many friends and their spouses (HI Sunny and Joe) hit
deer on motorcycles. Had one crotchy ol' curmudgeon that I like die
several times on the way to and in the hospital that lost part of a
    leg. He's back riding again.

So I came to the conclusion that...I'll keep an eye out but if the
damn thing makes it impossible, down one gear, pin that old wings ears
back, duck down and make the bastard pay for my suffering. Funny
thing, since I copped that attitude deer stop at the roadside. That
would include white tail, black tail, mule, moose (though if they know
there is room the cross like anyother pedestrian). Frankly it's
starting to creep me out! I mean in oklahoma, texas, missouri,
colorado, idaho, washigton, utah, montana etc would just saunter out
in front. Now? I see them stopping 100+yds from the road.

Would you? I'll heat up the grill and bake the cobbler.

Oh yeah, I'm out of surgery and it went ok (just a minor bit of
problem) but I hurt more now, than when that damn deer busted up my
leg. Must be getting old. Beats the alternative though.

You are so tempting. Not to mention the fun I'd have messing with the
HP's , County Mounties and Local Yokels. 8^) Just be glad you don't
have or sometimes issues...you do recall the story of me and the moose
don't you? I still laugh at how that turned out.

Yes, I do. Aren't you glad you "can laugh". ;)
As for messin' with the local yokels, I've done that. They take
    everything serious.

Say howdy to Barb for me.

ah-hmm, not when your speeding ticket reads like a good joke.
Downhill, tail wind, WO bring anything to mind?
Yes M'amm will do. Now back to the roof and yard to pick up the
shingles that were neatly stacked before 60-80mph winds hit for the
last two days. Also have to re-nail many and replace others.

=====How long has it been... what about 5 or 6 years, that you had the
deer encounter, in your neighborhood, wasnt it. Like close to where yall
    live?

You're right, heavy Deer population can vary in areas of the State..
Like I said, the Linden/jefferson area has it's share of over population
    of those creatures.

But here in my area, not that many. I hardly ever see any evidence
    around here, Thank Goodness.

Glad you got the surgery over'with, and on your way to recovery. Take
    care, JayT=

====Hey Sarge,I recall something about you riding up on a Moose, in the
road! You stopped, and you and the moose tried to stare each other down,
and the moose..won...cause you turned around, and rode backwards out of
there, have I got it straight???? RNChuckle.

I seem to recall something of that nature.
So that's where those strange shingles came from. And all along I
thought they were ours. It's been kinda gusty here too.
Have fun and don't get blown off the roof like Joe did.

5 years, as of June 19. It happened just about 3 miles from home. I
remember it like it was yesterday. Some things stick with a person.
Actually, they are everywhere, even places they weren't before.
Maybe you are lucky and have many hunters in your area.
Thanks. I could have use my gallbladder for a ship's anchor but the
doc had to remove it in pieces. Whoever says a cholecystectomy is
minor surgery, needs major knuckle bumps on their head.

    My thanks for Vicodin.

  17. Will be riding my Vulcan 1500 for a while. (Wait on 2010 NEW Wing model)

    Bought (yellow of course):
    http://www.olympiamotosports.com/airglide/airglide.htm

Will replace my full/flip face helmet. Have full summer gloves with
more protection. Leather in fall/winter as usual.

    Considering protective over pants.

Found these jeans with kevlar in the knees & some other areas. They
have mesh sweater kevlar shits also. Interesting.

<tease> it's just WRONG on so many levels. They shouldn't come with
all that stuff, it should ALL be options. Like the original, ya
know. ;^) I like the yellow that had in '76 better or maybe the canary
yellow from teh 58' 'vette. But the color is merely a matter of taste
I know. Might repaint min in Cav colors. You know white over red.
Was the shell cracked or abraided? As for gloves I've always worn full
length leather. Current ones are the same ones I was issued...very
good excellent abrasion resistant and there's room for inserts.
Normally I wear two pair of kevlar gloves summer/winter and add a pair
of polypro inserts between the kevlar gloves in winter. Doesn't really
bulk up or make picking up things tough. 8^)
I use a pair of Joe Rocket dry-tech paints and they've held up well
for the last 5 years, armored, comfy* for all day wear. They stay dry
in every rain I've ever encountered. Don't get hot* unless in stop and
go traffic so I guess if I went to austin Mopac is out.
There okay or so I'm told as I learn more I insist in wearing armor
also. But that's just me. I think of armor as just another piece of
saftey equipment that saves me the headaches that come with doing
    physical therapy.

*relize that my idea of comf and hot are tinted by the fact I used to
wear MOPP gear. All day with mask boots and gloves. Look Mission
Oriented Protective Posture. MOPP 4 is one hot mofo even when it's 40
    F.

What will the 2010 'Wing introduce?

That would be my color selection also. The '09
    Wing has resurrected Yellow, FYI.

I see the implication here is having been dragged
behind the unlicensed F150. But, I'd like to act-
    ually watch the video. <g>

Kevlar is so 20th century...Everybody who is anybody is making their
own CF cod pieces. Mine even has a titanium frame and a sorbathane
liner. The boys are truely SAFE for posterity.
