Historic vehicle

    Outlawed. After the date mentioned above, front number plates were
    specifically banned on new motorcycles. This was a H&S driven ruling due to
    the injury risk to pedestrians.

    My understanding they became no longer compulsory rather than outlawed.
    If they were "outlawed" then it would have surely applied retrospectively.

    IIRC, it's only bikes registered post 2001 that must not have front
    plates.

    If it is vintage (ie 1919 to 1930) it's likely to be white painted on
    black.

    If it's just old ie pre 1973 it could be silver letters or pressed
    aluminium - or more liely white paint or stick on letters. It could be
    rivetted letters but they're unusual.
