Hislop crash report

The report on the Hislop helicopter crash has been published today.

The report has dismissed a collision with a low flying jet, the
evidence indicating that the accident followed a main rotor blade
strike on the tailboom, probably caused by excessively low rotor RPM
which may have resulted from spatial disorientation when the helicopter
encountered low cloud and mishandling of the controls as the pilot
tried to avoid high ground and get back into clear conditions.

 

What?

 

It was fitted with GPS - he probably just flew into a hill
that he didn't know was there.

He'd have had to have a couple of goes to hit it, if was using GPS,

Surprise, surprise, pilot error. The manufacturers will be *so*
happy.

 

Nearly two years to come up with that report, when most pilot error
reports take a few months... Not that I'm cynical or anything. But
*I* wouldn't fly in a Robinson eggbeater.

 

Pah. Poof. Helicopters - I piss 'em.

 

Proof that, with enough determination, it is possible turn silk purses
into sows' ears.
