This June my partner and I have 13 days to ride a hired motorcycle from
Washington on the East coast to San Francisco and then LA. Has anyone hired
a decent sized bike in the US before, which company, and how roughly much
did it cost per day for a one way trip? I was thinking of going down the
Appalachain Mountain range to the Civil War battlefields, then onto
Memphis. After that I'm not sure of the most interesting route to Denver,
Colorado - any ideas??? Also has anyone ridden on Route 66 before - any
    tips or must see sights?

Is that a town or do you mean Fenwick Vacation Rentals to hire the bike
from? If the latter, their website appears to indicate that all they rent
    is holiday accommodation.

  5. If you're a HOG member you can hire a Harley for $US100 per day.

Other than that do a Google search for hire bikes in Seattle.

  6. Might be worth joining a HOG chapter just to take advantage of that deal for
    the 13 days

  7. Then again, could be worth buying a bike and shipping it back

    No it wouldn't be.

You have to be overseas for 12 months, and own the bike while there,
or it won't be registerable, and may not even be allowed to land.

I love the fact that you're _also_ a font of useful knowledge, Zebee.

You're an all round top bloke... ;-)

Nah Zebee is a 'fount of knowledge'...

It's me that's the Font (Geoff Sans, sort of like Comic Sans but not as
    funny).

I was making a joke you realize... (ok a poor one relating to my old
newsgroup posting name, but still a joke not meant to be taken seriously.)

    but... never the less :)

I think it's only Microsoft that doesn't know how to spell it properly,
they are the only source (Encarta) quoted by both of us !!

Ahhh... well you get my point then.

I freely admit to being about as funny in the newsgroup as Postman Pat
    is in person :)
