Hillclimbing - advice needed.

  1. You'll probably go to Wasdale Head by way of Wrynose and Hardknott passes -
I usually go that way, and back by the same route. Try and spot the Three
Shires Stone on Wrynose, and stop at the top of Hardknott to have a look at
Hardknott Castle (a Roman fort). I think some of the wee back roads around
Little Langdale that you'll have to traverse on the way in may be nearly as
    challenging on a Wing.

If you're anywhere near Keswick, head off down Borrowdale, over the Honister
Pass to Buttermere, turn right and head off back down the Newlands Valley to
Braithwaite. From there you can clear your head with a quick blast over the
Whinlatter Pass, but for Ged's sake *turn back* before you get to
Cockermouth. We'll be staying in Keswick 29th May - 5th June, so if you're
there that week, drop by for some of Sarah's cooking.

I don't recall much of the Bealach na Baa, apart from there's **** all in
the way of tea shoppes in Appledore, so take a flask...

I've done Wrynose before - two up, in fog. Well, mist ... as far as
    Cockley Beck Bridge.
    That is the landmark.
The Applecross ones are the marker stones at *each* end of the coast
    road.

  3. The first sharp corner. Took me two goes to make the turn once, in the
Rangie. The other road from there, down the other side of Harter Fell, is
pleasant, rural and mostly flat IIRC.

You have my latest mobile number?
    Oops, yes, I meant Applecross.

Been over Hard Knott a few times, the most 'fun' was 2 up on an RD400. You
could smell the clutch for miles.

Cross-Channel ferry killed mine; ripped the exhaust right off. They were
not easy to find in rural France.

Hey, I've been along that road in 2000 riding in a mentally
slightly unsettled mind. Still here, so can't be that good.

I've been over it in a 1l Fiat Uno with two people in it and stuffed to the
gills with luggage... the word "steep" springs to mind.

Me too, it's not too kind on the crap RD400 clutch, especially when you
have a tent and all manner of assorted camping shite strapped to a
    makeshift rack as well.

  11. The thing is, he didn't say Eskdale. IIRC, Nick said Eskdalemuir,
which is a different place altogether.

Being local to the Staircase I motorcycle (and cycle) over it several times
a year, there's only one right hander that is tricky two up on a motorbike.
The first left hander is best taken by being on the wrong side of the road.
Be warned the Northern side has a lot of broken tarmac at the moment.
