Nah.. I don't need to make up with Albert Nurick.. And you couldn't throw
him in the same city block with me, much less a room.. Be that as it may..
stay neutral.. I've tried my best to keep anyone else from getting
involved.. Wanna take shots at me, I will respond.. There are many on here
that I don't see eye to eye with.. I will respect them and they will respect
me.. As you have seen very often.. We'll argue about whatever our
differences are, and then go ride together.. I strongly disagree about your
opinion of Albert Nurick.. I also don't care if you and him are bosom
buddies.. Take care, Morgan.. even though we disagree, I have gained some
respect for you..My hand of friendship is extended with my signature.. It is
withdrawn from a few.. Albert Nurick is one of them...

Thank you. My position is that age shouldn't matter. And those cops don't
know her "status in the community" (as if her status makes her above the
law?) And again - she should've paid the thing before it turned into a
    warrant.

My friend was taken in for 2 things... Driving w/ expired license, and
expired registration - both of which were the same thing that he had
tickets for that had turned into warrants... He should've taken care of
business, just like she should have... it would have saved them both money,
aggrivation, and embarrasment in the long run.

    Bill,

I don't know why, but you seem to be ignoring the fact that she WAS a
criminal - she HAD A WARRANT out for her. Why is any of that non-
applicable because she's old? This is a black and white deal.. there's no
    grey to interpret.

Age is not a defense for failure to obey the law. She was 'cuffed and
stuffed because she had a warrant. The law dictates that if you have
a warrant, you are apprehended. I'm really surprised that you, the
"champion of peoples' rights" would advocate selective enforcement of
the law. If you don't like the law, you know the procedures for
getting it changed. Until then, live with it. It's high time that
the citizens of this country start taking a little personal
responsibility for their actions and live with the consequences of
breaking the law. Of course it's probably not her fault at all
because she had to spend all of her Social Security money on
prescriptions that society doesn't provide for her, leaving her
penniless and unable to register her car. Silly me for not expecting
her to plan for her future when she was younger. If only the
Democrats were in office, we'd have a Socialist plan and the poor old
lady wouldn't have been subjected to the law. Sheesh.

  6. you skipped one last step: when she received the arrest warrant.

generally those get mailed to the address on record. she ignored that
too. maybe she was embarressed to tell anyone or maybe she thought it
would go away or maybe she thought someone else would take care of it
and they didn't. with one son being a judge, it's possible she felt he
could fix anything like that and she could ignore it. he made it a point
not to make any comment today.

she's possibly a nice lady, but you are correct on the judgement and
thinking clearly part at 97 years old. it's part of the aging process,
those synapses don't fire the way they used to do. something we all get
    to face one day.

Damn... you people are too spooky.. Here's a scenario for you.. As a police
officer, I make a traffic stop.. I run a check on the plates.. I then
approach the car and find a little old lady.. Her license identifies her and
her age is indicated as being almost 100 years old.. I determine through
talking to her that she is alert and aparently has no impairments to prevent
her from driving.. Through that same conversation I learn that she is a
lifelong resident of this community and is a retired school teacher.. She
has apparently forgotten that her tags are out of date and that she got a
ticket for it.. Those are freaking questions the police officers are
supposed to ask, in order to do their freaking jobs.. The next obvious
question would be if she has family close enough to come for her.. The next
step would be to advise that family member of the situation and counsel them
to take care of it for the woman.. The Law's the Law.. huh.. Doing their
job.. Like I said.. time to change jobs.. Busllshit..The Law's the Law and
you may be a danger to me... I am handcuffing your desperate ass and taking
you to freaking jail... For all your years of service to your community, you
get no respect from me.. I am the Law and I'm taking your criminal ass to
jail... Right.. Sheesh.. you people are scary... until your own ox gets
gored.. Then you cry like babies...

Well.. addressing her impaired capacities .. Let's see now.. She wasn't
playing with the livestock and didn't run out in front of anything to be
hit.. She just forgot to renew her tags and didn't know what to do about the
ticket.. More than likely the first one she'd ever gotten.. I'd also advise
that you thoroughly review the "respect for your elders" comment.. Bet'cha
that was the first experience the old lady had with the law or anything
    comparable.. Wha'cha think ?

The woman is 97 years old.. It's that piss pore cops job and responsibility
to determine the character of the person he has stopped.. Especially in
deference to her age.. Think age doesn't matter... LOL.. wait a few years,
amigo.. If you are lucky .. you will get there.. I did.. I have .. and I
am.. That was probably the first experience that old lady ever had with a
ticket or the law.. That cop had her driving record in front of him.. Nah..
disgraceful way for our law enforcement officers to perform their job.. Not
professional at all... A professional officer would not stoop to arresting
that old lady... I've been talking to them all day.. The chief is
considering disciplinary measures against those officers.. How's that,
    sports fan.. ??

So we can all chalk this one up as "courageous" police officers have taken
another desperate "criminal" off the streets.. LOL.. what a freaking
joke.. you people are "scary".. till your own ox is being gored.. Then you
are crying for someone to come and help.. Maybe you will be encouraged to
know that the chief started his day by being defensive and was "doing his
job" also.. As of about one hour ago, he has said that disciplinary measures
are being considered by the department regarding the conduct of the officers
in this matter... Thanks for all your help.. Be sure to let us know, next
time one of these "do the duty" officers apprehends you on the street...

Bullshit.. if Steve Rothstein believes that his job is to arrest these 97
year old retired school teachers like this lady.. he needs to be
re-evaluated for fitness to serve as a police officer.. Damn.. don't you
people understand.. you are praising a couple of damned bullies who will
prey on you quicker than a heartbeat.. This incident took place more than a
week ago, from what I understand.. The only reason that it was reported this
morning was because one of her sons is a judge.. and the other one is a
doctor.. Both were unaware their mother had received a ticket.. Both had no
knowledge she even had a problem.. She never leaves her community.. Holy
shit people.. how much authority do you want to abuse your lives.. and those
of your parents, grandparents and teachers.. The woman should have taken
care of that ticket and tagged her car.. I don't know why she didn't.. I do
know that this matter was handled very unprofessionally..and should not be
tolerated.. by any of us.. certainly not by me.. With all the gushing about
thanking Steve Rothstein.. with all due respect, if he condones this kind of
police behavior, then he needs re-evaluation, badly.. If he is so afraid of
the public that he makes a routine traffic stop like a felony stop, he
should find another line of work, immediately.. That's my 2 cents.. That
chief in Highland Park agrees.. I talked to him twice today.. Professional
police officers across this metroplex also agree... Gush all you want.. it
is wasted under the circumstances I have written..

You obviously don't see the difference.. As a police officer and I pulled
over a belligerent drunk, I'd handcuff and probably shake his silly ass
around.. I'd arrest anyone in the car...This is not a twenty something
belligerent drunk.. on an open highway, out of state.. This is a 97 year old
retired school teacher within a couple of blocks of her home of almost 80
years.. in a community where she grew up and lived all her life.. Real
dangerous appearing.. I'm sure.. Horse hockey..Reading some of the nitwit
postings on this group, I feel like I have dropped into the "Twilight Zone"
where everyone is mesmerized by the fascination of police authority.. even
when that authority is being abused.. If you have read my other posts and
responses concerning this incident, these officers clearly were impressed
with their obligation to their "duty".. Bullcrap.. those were a couple of
bullies.. they humiliated that old lady because they found cause and had the
authority.. All alternatives to "arrest" were disregarded and they took full
advantage of it.. I've already offered some of the alternatives which were
promptly ignored and disregarded.. Who knows.. you may be next.. I'd be very
fearful if I were you Sunny.. Seems like when you and I talk about these
type horrors.. you are in line.. Once before.. we talked about officers
abusing their authority and you took essentially the same position.. Joe got
some kind of mickey mouse ticket close to your home.. He paid it, in spite
of all the yelling you did.. Then the insurance bullshit.. very interesting
postion.. we all know about your accident.. Better watch it.. Somebody just
might be telling you something, you think ?

We agreed years ago that we don't have respect for one another.. Nothing
funny about any accident, dummy..I've probably ridden amongst more deer than
you've seen.. Me and the good Lord didn't hit one of them..but it could
happen next time I ride.. You do seem to forget a lot of the things that
have happened to you .. I reminded you of those incidents to refresh ..
nothing more.. Like I said.. when we talk about something you might be wise
to listen.. The next one in handcuffs by some goddam bully cop, just doing
his job, could be you.. As you well know.. I have all respect for a
professional law enforcement officer who is doing his job like a
professional.. Wannabe gestapo.. bullies who treat every traffic stop like a
felony stop is not a professional and is despised by the professionals..
even though they may have to work with him.. Maybe you and Albert can get
together on that killfile thing and perfect it... Please start with me..

There are alternatives to arresting anyone. But let's just stick to the
    efin'-A

She just did it because of where she lived and her age. She thought
they'd let her take a walk and not expect her meet the same standards as
everyone else. She'd already been ticket for it, failed to appear or
show resolution and a bench warrant was issues. S.O.P.

I say we pull the DLs of anyone over 60 and make 'em use public transit
    or move to a "home".

I don't. And of all the pictures which were shown, there wasn't any
blood...blood that would've been a great deal of an amount from a
woman who's arm had been half-ripped from her torso. That gorilla
wasn't a cow out in some pasture who ended up out of control. He was
an endangered animal who was in a zoo and being a gorilla. Dispatching
the SWAT members and helicopters is WAY overboard of how to handle a
    gorilla out of his enclosure.

In any case, park officials weren't notified or given the opportunity
to get the gorilla under control and get him back into his enclosure.
Again, I disagree. A much better way to handle the situation would be
to use courtesy and ask the woman to go with the police back to the
police station while they found out what was going on.

I was arrested about 10 years ago trying to cash a check in the bank
where the check was drawn on. The cashier said I didn't have "enough
identification" and called the police when I asked her how much is
"enough" if a drivers license wasn't good enough. The police arrived,
and even though I didn't have a checking account and hadn't had one in
years, they said I had a hot check out and a warrant. I explained that
    this must've been a mistake because I didn't have a checking account
which is why I was cashing the check at the bank where it was drawn
on. They handcuffed me and took me to jail. In jail, I explained the
same thing and they insisted they didn't want to hear about it. They
kept me there a full day before I even got to call anyone to let them
know where I was at. I was transported to Lew Sterritt that evening
and finally got out later that night. The first thing that next
morning, I hit the municipal building in Garland where the warrant was
from to find out what was going on. It turned out that I was correct
and the check wasn't mine. I didn't get so much as an apology from
anyone who held me for a full day and treated me the way they did.
Now, had even one of those dipshit police officers thought passed "you
have a warrant and that's that" they might've wondered about the
warrant on a person who didn't have a checking account and called the
NEXT city over and asked a few more questions to verify.

It's not all "black and white". You treat every situation differently
and make exceptions at times to accomidate those who deserve it.
