Not that I've noticed. I have noticed I need more light to do tasks
like thread a needle but apart from that I've not really seen my focus
    distance shift.

I was afraid it was my eyes aging though. A friend recently suggested I
should get my eyes tested, maybe I should.

What kit did you buy (link?)
I'd be interested in splitting an H4 hi/low car set with you

It was something on ebay, about 8 months ago.
ditto. Provided the price isn't silly.

I ventured out with the two Cibie's tonight, they really are very good.
It would be a blast having two main & dip HID units in there though.

OK, I don't know if your posting address works as an email address. But
anyway the rest of them can **** off if they don't like it 'cos there's
    so much shit on here.

I've found a set of H4s in the states:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8051239804

Put in an offer of $185 which was accepted (dammit, knew I should have
    tried $170 first)

Asked for the 6500K rather than the 8000K ones; we're both too old for
    8000K.

Took the $4 shipping insurance so the total's about $230. Once I see
how much I get charged (and if I need to pay duty...) I'll be in touch.

Of course, If they're any good I'll probably keep both and claim they
    didn't turn up.

Well yes it works when de-munged.
The rear of these bulbs look pretty deep? and I don't quite understand
how the high/low works. Doubt they would fit the Bandit shells but good
for the Beemer. Bring it on.

Well, I'll measure up when they arrive and work out what's what. If
it's not suitable for you I'm sure I can find a use for it (or punt it
    out on ebay)

All I can think about the high-low is that they've three 'electrodes':
a,b,c and a-b = low beam whilst b-c = high beam with the switching being
done in the ballast. I doubt the bulb actually moves. We will see.

Well, we will see. On reflection you're probably right.

    Well, you are.

I fitted it a couple of weeks back.

The low beam seems just about the same as the previous one I had. When
I engage the high beam there's a 'click' as it goes forwards. The light
    is refocussed.

It works well enough but I've noticed that on occassion it doesn't go
back to low beam from high beam. If I turn off the lights and turn them
back on it seems fine. I need to fiddle a bit to resolve what the cause
    of this is...

I was reading a report about a similar design in a motoring trade journal
recently, can't remember which one as it was a waiting room table.
The biggest shortcomings that were mentioned were the suspected short life
    of the luminere.
This, mainly being put down to a) the moving parts, & b) the short life of
the lamp itself, again due to movement.
It was felt that the whole lamp banging in and out would generally shorten
the capsules life dramatically plus the wear of the solenoid driven capsule
    could affect focussing.

That's all folks as I didn't get to read the rest.

  13. I'm looking at the possibility of purchasing single units. One high
wattage dipping unit for the bike, the other I want is a 20 watt unit to
    convert a diving torch.

    Any info gratefully received.

    Ebay!

Prices have dived over the last 12 months. If you read the adverts many
    of them offer to split.

However, the H4 dual units all seem to be the solenoid type rather than
    two bulbs.
