You've seen what happens to bike riders when they're wearing hi-viz clobber I hope. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
My missus was sat at the lights yesterday when a woman pulled across the road and smacked **** out of her drivers door. She then backed up, (the bint, not the wife) turned the steering wheel "just" not enough to miss the wife's car again as she attempted to get to the side of the road. That was the door fucked, then the front wing and bumper, but Mrs Wrecker wasn't satisfied yet, oh no, she didn't bother trying to limit the damage by stopping, she carried on and pushed the wife's car sideways into Mr White Van Man. So that's the front wing and bumper bent into a new shape and mirror and n/s door fucked too. White Van Man looked at the damage to his van (rear 1/4 and back light) and said "**** it, it's only t' firm's van" What did Mrs Wrecker say? Sorry love, I didn't see you", and that was after making eye contact with the wife before she pulled out. Quotes so far are around the 1600 quid mark. Un-fucking-believable. I've a feeling we've got a job to do next week. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19

If one was riding a large white BMW down an English motorway one might find it amusing.... Completely waterproof too of course.

Although I wear a Hi-Viz vest, I think that it may be becoming associated with learner riders nowadays, some drivers may then treat you with the same contempt they do learner car drivers. David

I never used to bother in good visibility, but put on a yellow and reflective thingy in misty, rainy, dank dark manky weather conditions. I don't know whether it helped or not, but I certainly found I could see other bikers better in these conditions with hi-viz on. Normal weather it didn't seem to make any difference what people were wearing. In fact I think it's things that are out-of-place that attract peoples attention the most, so maybe you should ride with a large elephant suit on, or a large pair of comedy breasts (gold naturally).
No... you can't prevent something from pulling out in front of you, even if your observation is spot on. Doesn't mean you have to hit it though, that can be something you can control through observation. IME people often look but they don't always take in the information presented to them. The hi-viz jacket gets noticed and gives other road users an additional visual cue that I'm there. In some cases I can see the drivers reaction when they notice my presence - specifically when they're coming out from a side turning. You can see the realization on their face. Certainly a higher proportion do now than before I started wearing it. It deters the "I think I have enough time - I'll chance it" crowd. HVB
I'm addicted. And besides, everybody needs some element of risk in their life... but that doesn't mean I want to maximise it. That's your choice, and that's cool with me. I wouldn't suggest making hi-viz gear mandatory. HVB
I'll probably repair the car, bill the insco and go for a ride on t' bike. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
Well you're in the right trade to see the effects of some really dumbfuck things... It still doesn't cease to amaze me, I'd better stop, if I start ranting... I'm still in pain from my rear-ender of 4 weeks ago, I haven't been able to ride the bike because of the pain in my left shoulder... Grrr! Yours, Angry of Reading...
