Isn't that hgv in the fast lane? And how the hell is it going faster
than cars?! I'd be a bit embarrased to be rearended by an HGV if the
    traffic wasn't stopped.

I agree. Anyone going slow enough on a free flowing motorway (as the
video shows) to be rear-ended by an HGV deserves it.

She reckons she was pushed along for 'several miles' with no means of
    escape.

WTF does she think the right hand pedal does, then?

AFAIK, it happened in a SPECS controlled 50mph section of road.

    <pedant mode>
Its not the "fast" lane, all lanes on a motorway can travel equally at
    70mph
    </pm>

What I have seen a few times on stretches of Mway that are reduced to 2
lanes then return to 3 (or more), is a truck that was in lane 2 suddenly
finds itself in lane 3 (or 4) as the extra lane(s) appear on the left.

  5. Someone pulled the fuse from the tachograph (it also controls the speed
    limiter, I think)?

As it was a foreign lorry it probably didn't have a tachograph or speed
    limiter.

I bet there's a few cabs that can reach 90+ quite easily if the trailer
    is empty.

Is it true that trucks carrying fertiliser don't have to use a tachograph?
    Sounds like bullshit to me....

Well, I was taking the piss. The truck driver obviously is a lethal
idiot who should be locked up.

But - I've just looked at the videos again, and I'd definitely
describe the traffic conditions as 'free flowing'.

Er, I'd say 'free-flowing' is where all the vehicles are travelling at
the speed they want to, rather than a speed dictated by the vehicles
    in front.
When you have to make such a choice, then with me it always pays to go
    with 'stupid'.

That pretty much nails it, yes.

I imagine there's a similar version for Ogdens.

Isn't everyone being a tad harsh on the Truckie? We don't know all the
facts. People who lane hog drive me crazy, as do the long lines of lane3
65mph traffic when lanes 1 and 2 have only the occasional vehicle in them. I
sometimes revert to passing 3 lanes of 30mph trucks/vans on the hard
    shoulder.

Years ago I had got to "touching" twats on the M8 around Harthill (2 lanes)
in an Isusu Trooper, then a bloke in Essex or Kent got 6 months for same
    and I improved my behaviour.

Should I ever get the "sorry Sir, late diagnosis, you have 4 weeks to live"
message I might just acquire a nice Rangie, equip it with FOAD roo bars
front and rear, fill the tyres with puncture sealant, load up with a couple
of Spas-12's, a Browning and half a dozen fragmentation grenades then set
off down the M1 on week 4.

I wonder, does my son get the life insurance once I let an SFO take me down?

    Merry fucking Christmas
