    SpamTrapSeeSig was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:

    It's an ex-German Army BMW stationary engine. It's been reconditioned
    and then stored. He also lists a few bikes that the engine will fit
    after conversion, plus the BMW 700 cage.

    I'd sort of got that far courtesy of Google's translation robot (which
    is as good for Christmas humour as anything). I wondered if there was
    some specific use I'd missed

    It's a bit odd though - I'd have expected it to end in an output shaft
    of some sort - What d'you think they intended it for just power
    generation or something else? It looks a bit bulky to have been too
    popular - I winder what the advantages were, if any.

  6. Small generators or pumps, for the most part. Air cooling would be some
    advantage for a military lump, given the possibility of (Cold War
    period) having to operate in East European/Russian winters.
