Why not? Tell 'em motorcycles are the gods of your machine-based religion, and that they would be deeply offended if you
were to swear an oath to a false god, thus imperilling your eternal soul.

(hey, it's got as least as much cred as the crap you get from 'conventional' religions most of the time!)

  3. Aren't religious devotees entitled to swear on their appropriate holy book
    or token?

In a similar, if lighter vein, I went to a 'priests and prostitutes' fancy
dress once, wearing an ascetic's threadbare attire, attempted to convert the
heathens with readings from the Yam XS650 maintenance manual. (ended up that
evening in a dark alley with an angry greek, but that's another story).
It's only 90% of lawyers who give the rest a bad name. (couldn't resist)

    It's called a Vicars & Tarts party. ;)

Sorry, it's the pommie upbringing rearing it's ugly head. :p

Why not? You get the choice of swearing on the book of magical fairies, or
any other that you choose. It seems absurd that a VFR manual would be
considered any more ridiculous than the book of magical fairies.

If you are intending to be misleading, you could swear on the "Haynes
    Book of Lies"
