Do you run on main beam because you think it makes 'cage' drivers see you
    more readily?

    Well, you're fucking twats.

It's near enough impossible to judge speed/distance of a bike on main
beam; I say this as someone whose job is pretty much under-pinned by
speed/distance judgement so it could be said I'm not too bad at it.

In Brighton today was the Pioneer run (I think) so the roads I was
travelling in the car had a fair few bikes on them.

A fair few of the modern stuff had main beam on in the outside lane of
the dual carriageway and it was near enough impossible to work out their
    speed.

Don't do it - it just makes me want to pull out.

You'll be writing to all the manufacturers who hard-wire the lamps in
    the "on" position then?

They're hard wired for dipped beam, not main beam.

    HTH.

Aye. At least you only think about it. Granted, going round with main
beam on doesn't exactly endear you to other motorists does it.

I went past some bloke on a FZR going into a roundabout on my CG125, He
seemed to jump and wobble a bit as I went past, like he really didn't
    expect me to be there.

Actually, I generally run on main beam because I leave the fucking light
switched on all of the time.

If I stop and think I'll turn the fucker off during the day.

Indeed, they're certainly coming out now aren't they. Even more annoying
when they follow you for miles with their beam flickering in your
    mirrors.

Success. And of course I meant 'dip'.

I really wish I had a dip-main HID though. Still it's now almost summer
    so not worth worrying about.

Some of those main beam headlamps are *really* bright, even in
daylight. When they're coming towards me I'm often distracted.
