HESKETH

  1. "We shall only be assembling a few VORTAN machines for sale"

Hardly surprising. If I'd 20grand to spend on a Hesketh, I sure as shit
    wouldn't buy one of those.

    Superbike test of that.

    Champ muttered
    That's the Tejón
Very crude it was, but it had a certain Iberian charm about it.
Rattled like a badly screwed together Norton though...

Didn't they also do one with an XS400 Yamaha engine as well? Usually/always
    in silver?

IIRC there was a 750cc version too. I think I might even still have
    the Superbike review...

    In
Seem to recall that Spain had some sort of protectionist
legislation whereby you could only sell a product in Spain if you
had a factory there. So Yamahas way around it was to supply
    engines to Sanglas.

Nissan, General Motors, VW(SEAT) have factories there for the
same reasons. I guess that the Spanish would've had to pull back
on such legislation under EC law though?

  10. That was basically it, at the time, yes. It's why Bultaco and other
brands lasted as long as they did - the Spanish bought them because they
    couldn't really buy anything else.

    Didn't Yamaha eventually acquire Sanglas?
