    Swot I fort too.

Fact is, he was a reactionary old goat who denied condoms to an aids
ridden continent on the basis of something that Jesus never said or
practised as far as the bible tells us.

He was so unreflectingly anti left wing he disowned the Nicaraguan priests
who reflected the wishes of their flock to rid themselves of the American
backed facists who were taking over their country. They were gunned down
    like dogs.

He denied women access to the priesthood in an age of equality,
Turned a blind eye to the sexual abuse of children by a large ring of
American priests, ignored all the rumblings about the misuse of funds in
the Vatican bank, including the large scale laundering of drug money and
arms dealing, and he had the cheek to name himself after his predecessor
who actually was about to take action on this when he was murdered by the
clique which he allowed to stay in charge if the Vatican Bank after his
    election.

So, no respect for JPII from me TOG.

    Like it or not.

Wasn't Monkey asking the double question:

"How can anyone be shocked by the death of an 84-year-old who had been
suffering for ten years?" - They are dumb Catholics.

"whose heart gave out a week ago?" - The Pope's.

  6. No. Are you saying that it was incorrect to use 'whose' in the sentence
under discussion? That it would have been correct to use 'who's' instead?

  9. Then what? Someone used 'whose' in a sentence (correctly, as far as I can
see), and you say that he misspelled 'who's'. I'm merely trying to
understand what you meant by that.

I think most folk on here could discuss the merits/demerits of JPII's mark
on the world in dispassionate style. Or should we wait until he's buried?

What is to discuss? We live in a Protestant country, apart from him
machinating to get the English Throne/Church, we are about as immune to
dictates handed down from on high as you can get and still be
    Christians.

Of course, those brainwashed by papery early on in life may hold
    different views.

Of course. You were asking a question, not ending a sentence with an
explanation, I trust? (Can't be arsed to look at original, typical. :(

Indeed. Whilst being a neurological disorder, Parkinson's actually
isn't an illness that causes you to lose the ability to think or know
what is going on, rather it is a neurological disorder that causes
tremors ranging from mild to severe that can make everyday life quite
    difficult.

Don't forget, the brain is a very complex part of the body, just
because a disease originates in the brain doesn't mean all faculties
(including the ability to understand what is going on around you) are
    affected.

She may have suffered with dementia, too. Dementia is not caused by
    Parkinson's.

  19. Then allow me. Here is the original: "How the **** can anyone be 'shocked'
by the death of an 84-year-old who had been suffering for ten years, and
whose heart gave out a week ago?"

The use of 'whose' in the above sentence is correct. The use of 'who's' in
the above sentence would be incorrect, question or not.

    Examples:
"Whose line is it, anyway?" (Right.)
"Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" (Right.)
