Just watched this, and many thanks for pointing me to it. What a great
    programme.

Especially interesting for me because Sir Stirling was one of my
boyhood heros, even though he stopped racing around the time I was born
    - 18 days after I was born to be precise. When I was working for
Bartletts I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and consider
him to be a complete gent in every respect.

    You old fucker! ;^)
Oh Christ, yes. If you were looking for the epitome of the "English
Gent", I reckon that's the man.

He always gave the impression that even under his racing overalls he'd
have been wearing a starched tailored shirt and old school tie.
Whenever I saw him he was immaculately turned out, and always wearing a
small enamelled BRDC badge on his jacket lapel. Great bloke with a
    fantasticly quick sense of humour.

You must know a different Sir Stirling to the one I've met then. I'd
never call him snobbish; well educated and well spoken - yes, but
snobbish - no. Where do you get the idea hes two faced. In every
situation it seems he's the one who'll say what's on his mind, directly
    to whoever needs the telling,

If you watch it you'll see that phrase does come up in a Renault 20
advert shown as part of the prgramme.

To be honest, I can't remember what the advert was for, I just remember the
line. Copper on a pushbike, I think.
