Erm... I don't suppose anyone can save my testicles by coming up with a copy
of last week's episode of "Heroes", title "Cold Wars", aired at 9.00pm on
    16/3/09?

The iPlayer thing is no good as I need to burn it to DVD and I'm too stupid
    to understand the torrent thing.

All expenses will be met, naturellement.

    Saviour! You have mail.

(I tried the torrent thing but my success rate after waiting a week for the
file to download was pitifully low, so I gave up trying.)

    *boggle*

There are still people who watch stuff like that on broadcast television?

How else do you propose watching it?

Not everyone does torrents. Not everyone has a flat panel TV with DLNA
hooked up to a farm of media NASs.

It's not out fault if they want to stay in the 20th century.

Actally manufacturers seem to be slow to add DLNA to TVs, but this year
should see something that matches my requirements, so I may finally get to
    upgrade.

    Still not doing torrents though.

I didn't know about DNLA, actually.

But TVs are coming out with USB slots for memory sticks.
    heh

My NAS has it, so I want to make the most of it. Just seems daft
otherwise, coz I'd have to hook the laptop up to the TV.
    That's so 2007.

Actually, what NAS are you running? I really must replace mine with
    something decent.
Oh. <glum> My 2008 TV doesn't have it

Hardly matters if you have a PC plugged into it though, surely?

Well, quite, but I hate being out-technologied.

QNAP TS-109, like wot darsy has. A bit more expensive but good.

Actually, if I pulled my finger out and built a HTPC, I wouldn't need DLNA
at all and could just go buy a new TV now.

it fucking rocks, though my TV doesn't have DNLA unfortunately - one
of the other cool things about the QNAP though is that it has a
torrent client, with a Windows interface - you set up your downloads
on your PC, then turn the PC off, and the NAS box manages all the
downloads for you directly onto its storage.

Sony W5500 TVs now do DVLA with video support.
Before that the W4500 was music and still pictures only.
