Doesn't seem worth it when I have two PS2 mice sitting about patiently
    waiting their turn.

  2. My comp/rightclick c:/properties/tools/defrag and watch the fridge
    defrost for some real entertainment.

Tip; make sure everything is turned off, afair 98 still had the habit of
starting the defrag from scratch again if any prog accessed the disk
during. Also, it sticks at 10% for ever, but eventually passes it.

Ta, will do, or what catman says.
Hmm, that's why catman said to turn off screensaver then. Will turn
    everything off.

    Err...

You'll want to free up some space before you run defrag.

In fact, if you're going to "Spring clean" the disk, definitely do it
first, so that the free space gets (as much as it can be), put into a
    contiguous area.

I'll have you know I have no funky coloured squares bopping about on
_my_ screen. Pah. I have a restful plain green background.

I have spent some time clearing out old files - now I'm ready to
defrag (thanks for that tip). I have also set the PC never to go onto
standby (thanks for that tip too). I have not changed the mouse - but
will if problem persists. Thanks to all for helpful suggestions.

I have now defragged - yes, I saw the squares, no I neither knew nor
cared what the colours meant. I went to work and left it running. Came
    back, done, excellent. Ta.
