I'm looking for aftermarket front and rear sprockets for my zeal,
trying to save a few dollars on the genuine yamaha parts. I haven't had
much luck here, the two bike shops I went to said only genuine parts
are available, and the two wreckers I went to couldn't help me either.
I have done a quick search of old posts and found this one:
    http://groups.google.co.nz/groups?h...6713%24afc38c87%40news.optusnet.com.au&rnum=1
I tried emailing the guy to see where he got his aftermarket sprockets
from, but it seems the email address is no longer valid.
I've emailed Victorian Motorcycle Wreckers and they quoted me $200 AUD
+ $20-$30 postage for a new aftermarket chain and sprockets set, but
that works out more expensive than getting genuine components here in
    New Zealand.

Does anyone know of some cheap(er) aftermarket sprockets for the zeal
    and where to get them?

    Thanks,
    Erik

    A$200 for the while set?
And you want cheaper than that?
min A$ 20 for the front, 50-odd for the back, leaving 130 for the chain
(won't be prime stuff at that),
but yeah, A$ 200 sounds pretty good.
If you can do OEM better than than, see yer Yammie dealer
    cheers

My mistake, I can get a non-o-ring chain here for pretty cheap through
a mate, and that with the OEM sprockets would work out under AU$220
Dunno why I didn't think of that yesterday...
The OEM sprockets here are about NZ$70 for the front and NZ$120 for
the rear iirc, so I've emailed Victorian Motorcycle Wreckers back to
see if I can get the sprockets by themselves.

    Cheers,
    Erik

Why bother? O-ring chains go down to, what, AU$100 ... it's not
worth going cheaper than that for the hassle.
You're not talking about industrial drive chain are you? Won't
    last a thousand kilometers.

I don't think they're industrial chains, but I'll double check before
I get one. My brother has had a non O-ring chain on his zzr250 and it
seems to be lasting ok, so I think I'd like to try one just to see how
it compares to the O-ring chain, and also to save a few bucks since
    I'm a student.

Victorian Motorcycle Wreckers has emailed me back saying AU$50 for the
sprockets alone which sounds bloody cheap to me, so I think my search
for sprockets is over :) It sounds a bit weird though, $50 for
sprockets and $150 for a chain? Hopefully they've got it right. I'll
try to phone them tonight and find out.

I ride shafties myself, but I just put a new O-ring chain and sprocks
on Sofi's (ex-Hammo's, now someone else's) VTR250, and the sprocks
worked out to ~$40 apiece, and the chain ~$100. From Redwing, can't
remember what brands they were. Ask Denis. Labour extra.
