    Hi,

Would anyone be able to tell me how to derestrict my TZR 125, or tell
me where I could go to get help on it?
Also how do I know if it is already fitted with a powervalve?

    Thanks
    Paul

All TZR125s were fitted with PVs - it's just that the learner ones
weren't fitted with the essential servo motors to make the things work.

Look at the left-hand side of the barrel. There'ss be a sort of round
inspection plate. There ar two holes for cables to go in and out of. If
there are cables fitted, that's a good sign! Follow the cables and if
the other ends are connected to a servo motor, then you have a complete
    power valve system.

    If not, then you don't.

When you turn on the ignition there should be a "wheee-whee" ssound as
the PV cycles through (it does this to clear away carbon build-up). If
you don't hear this noise, then - again - you have no working PV.

A functional PV is the only way to go. You can turn the already-fitted
PV to its full open position, but this makes the bike pretty much
unrideable lower down the rev range.

Just do a google - I got loads of stuff with the string: 'TZR 125
    derestricted' or 'TZR 125 derestricting'

Here is one to start you off :

Why on earth do you want it derestricted?

Of course destristriction only works for acceleration and at *all* other
times your weight makes much more difference.

Derestriction will also ruin the resale value.

Depending on the model, it may already be fitted with a power valve. If
so, then fitting an early DTR125 ignition box will make it work as it
should. This is how people de restrict the later model DTRs, as the TZR
    is the same basic engine.

    Really?

And how did you come to this earth shattering conclusion then, given
(assuming he's talking about the original L model), how much time (as in ten
minutes), and money (as in nothing, if you have the right tools, that being
a couple of spanners, and a couple of allen keys), it takes to restrict /
    derestrict one of these, then?

He didn't say which model it was... so you may, or may not, be correct in
stating that, with the former being the most likely.
It helps if you check to see if the control unit is in place, too -
    somewhere under the seat, IIRC.
....and makes it feel a lot faster than it actually is, when it kicks in -
making it much more exciting for budding Barry Sheenes, if a bit of a
challenge in heavy traffic, and even then it's not really an issue - the
main flatspot is at 5k, when the valve is jammed open, so it will still
pootle away off the mark quite happily at low revs, unless you're trying to
get a decent hillstart under way.
