Any help here would be VERY much appreciated!

On my 97 speed triple, yesterday I noticed a strange (and new)
phenomenon! When in neutral, as I release the clutch and "engage"
neutral there is a REAL increase in the general bike's vibration. When
I pull the clutch in or am in a gear there is no problem, but when I
am at the lights in neutral with both hands off the bars there is a
weird change in noise and vibration.

WHAT ON EARTH COULD THIS BE?

And even better, how could I fix it?

    Thanks in advance.
Best response gets a mystery star prize as I really want to sort this.

Clutch rattle. Learn to live with it.
Don't buy a Honda, cos they do it too.

My FZR250 has clutch rattle too, and it gets really loud when the carbs
    need balancing.

Check your oil level. It may be low but not low enough to light the
    warning bulb.

  5. That's why mine rattles then, either that or it's the cam chain.

  7. Mine didn't start rattling until a few weeks ago. More of a fast ticking
noise, actually that gets quieter when it feels like it and then comes
    back again.

Does it seem louder after a hot start or when cold, or is it truly random?

Heh.. did you hear how much my FZR250 rattled before I started adjusting
    it? :)

Also, maybe the clutch plates and primary drive gears rattle, like wot
    my FZR does.
Don't those bike engines sound a little rattly at idle anyway?

  10. I've only noticed it when it's cold. It could do it when hot but I've
not noticed it then. When it starts cold, it'll tick and then it'll get
quieter after a few seconds and then it'll come back. I've not listened
to it carefully but from what I remember it never really goes away but
    gets quieter.

I'll go out on it today and try to remember to listen to it when it's
    warm.
No. I don't think I've ever heard your FZR at anything above idle.

Not on my '98 Daytona. The other thing that comes to mind is how long
since it was last serviced? You may just need clean plugs or the newest
engine mapping for the ignition. Engines slightly off-tune do make odd
    noises.

Sounds most likely the valves want checking and adjusting. Lovely job,
which usually involves taking the cams out. :)
    That's when it rattles most.

  13. Yes, could very well be.
Are you sure they need to come out or have you got a cam fetish?
    :)

You going to get it done then?
My fetish isn't cams, although I do still keep a couple of bits of
Bandit cam in my broken bits tin.
At 18,000 rpm all the noise just seems to blend and become a scream.

  15. Only if I can get it done without paying for it.
I know what you mean. My tank vibrates now and at a certain rev it makes
the bike sound like it's growling.

Luckily the CBR is good old screw and locknut. The exhaust valves on 1
and 4 are a bit of a bugger to reach mind.

Get a Hanes Manual or borrow one, and I'll give you a hand with doing
it. You could pop up, as I've got tools and stuff here...
On my CG125, I know when the tank is half empty, as it sort of howls at
full cruise speed. Funny what you notice about your bikes when you get
    to know them.
