Help me out a little here

"Washington has said it is checking reports that three US tourists were
detained by Iranians while hiking along the northern Iraqi border."

So, on the face of it, three Americans have decided to have a little
summertime hike along the Iran-Iraq border. And now they're probably 72
hours from an orange jump suit and a (brief) appearance on Youtube. With
    added gurgle.

And the Septics are spending time looking into this?

It's a funny old world, and no mistake.

I have already made the greatest contribution to the fight against climate
change that I can make: I have decided not to breed. Now quit bugging me and
go and talk to the Catholics.

Bit of a daft place to go if you're a Septic, I'd have thought.
It's what they do innit? Look into things.

Using the words "Tourist" and "Iraq" in the same sentence is still weird.

    Yes, but that would be

    a) Somewhat embarrassing.
    b) You'd have to explain to voters who thought you were pulling out.

Kurdish, but were they officials of Iraq, Iran, Turkey or some oher

To afford the trip, they are rich, successful, omnipotent Americans.
Not always the best representatives of their country.

I blame the wine I've drunk.

  9. Just like Afghanistan. Used ter be Afghanistan was one of the best
places to travel through and just as I was seriously thinking of giving
it a go the fucking fucking fucking Soviets fucked it all up forever.

  10. Bah - it's fine, if you take reasonable precautions. I'm pretty close
to going as a tourist, as a matter of fact.

As Paul said up there though, you've probably got more "knowledge" that most.

There's a lot of kurds in Basel, mostly Turkish, who get very upset
when people make that sort of mistake.

The main draw of Afghanistan was the drugs though. Now that moving drugs has
become a "bit of a do", the attraction isn't quite as strong. Or so I'm lead
    to believe.

You know that 'Carry On Up The Khyber' was filmed in North Wales?

The Buddhas of Bamyan? Too fucking right. As good an example of why
religion is shit as you'll see.
