Ducati do make lemons on occasion , but thats just to keep the loosers from staying in the click

Is being charged $1000 for a service character building?

The time my mates 748 snapped a belt and left him stranded on the Putty for
5+hrs would be considered character building :)

  4. Out of interst, do you know if that belt was within its scheduled
replacement distance? Ducati say to replace them every 20,000km or 2
years, and I've only once heard of a belt breakage inside of that
(apparently it went at 11,000miles or ~17,500km, but it was over 3 years
    old at the time)

Yes the only instance I'm personally aware of was on a 600 Pantah that was
advertisied as " Been in storage for 5 yrs." unfortunately for the purchaser
a belt snapped as he was riding it home, on "Plates calculated to decieve"
Ah , If only he'd trailered it to the w/shop for a service and roadworthy
    first.
