Went to pick up the XJ900 from a service (yes 70k and I still have it
serviced) and there was a note stuck to it.

    Nah.

BTW, how roomy are the original XJ9s?

Are Divvy 9s worth considering, with a back/neck problem? What would I get
    for £2.5 - 3K?

You should have sat on it when you had the chance :)
If as good as the F, then well worth it. But less power and poorer fuel
    consumption

  6. They're pretty damn good.
Divvy Nines are excellent too. I owned one for a few years - traded it
in for the 1200 Trophy. The old XJ9 is actually slightly faster, but not
enough to make any difference. Divvie handles better, is smoother, and
better finished, but that's about it. They're both comfy, do 45+mph,
have decent fairings, and go over 200 miles on a tank.

Dull bike, mind - incredibly efficient at what it does, but completely
    soulless.

That sort of budget will get you a damn good one. Prices are actually
firming up, because they killed the model due to the new emissions regs,
and neither Yamaha nor anyone else has replaced it with anything
    remotely similar.

I wouldn't, without asking - I expect folk to do the same WRT my bike.
    ;-)

    Hmm.....

Divvy 9's are lovely bikes. You should be able to pick up a corker for
that price. Very comfortable and a decent riding position. The XJ900,
is nice, but the FJ would be a better choice out of all three, I reckon.

I don't agree with TOG's viewpoint about them being soulless though.
IMO, there are very few bikes that are really in that category.

It is a real shame that they were killed off though. Mind you, I
    couldn't imagine a fuel injected Divvy. :)

I find the best way to identify soulless bikes is to look very closely
and try and find a plate that says "made in Japan"

  12. The Divvie 9 used exactly the same shaft drive and bevel box unit,
incidentally - they just lifted it directly from the old XJ900F.

I did, it was very nice. Funny bar position, but it was comfy and the
    engine had plenty of go.

Don't think i'd own one though. No room at the inn !

    Cheers
