ok, im gonna get flamed (probably) but i just got a xnd-hand bmw
r 100 rt, and ive yet to get a manual/handbook etc, does anyone know
how the heck i get the seat up? when i look at the frame, it has a
lock (same key as ignition) and some kind of stud, but nothing happens
when i press, pull, move, hit it with a hammer......

    anyone know how it opens?

    regards, galbak

The stud releases the seat. If it doesn't move, it may be locked. If it
does move a little, press down heavily on the seat to let the locking bar
move more freely, and push the stud home. The seat should now be released,
    and can be pulled upwards.

If you're pushing the stud fully home, and the seat isn't releasing, you may
need professional (or, at least, competent) help. Don't hit it with a
    hammer.

    Angle grinder.

A shift key may help too.
