Eye protection isn't mandatory on a bike is it?
Do I buy glasses to aid my vision or to protect my eyes?

I'm not arguing whether the original statement is true or not because
I don't fucking know but I suspect that the reason visors have to be
approved is because they're an integral part of a piece of safety
equipment and as such have had relevant tests designed for them.
    Glasses aren't eye protection.

I'd also argue against saying that sunglasses need approval because
they're protecting against the sun, not impact from a bloody great
rock kicked up by a bus but that's one for another day.

  2. Conditions of high humidity and cold can make a visor virtually unusable
as your breath condenses on the inside of it.

I've often had to raise or remove a visor just to see where I'm going -
and yes, I've tried that anti-mist stuff, and usually, it's adequate.

So plod riding along with visor up wearing sunglasses is breaking the
law? If you came to a halt and lift your visor, is that breaking the
law? Do any coppers really enforce this? I'm not saying you're wrong,
    it just seems so stupid...

Indeed - it was talking about visors, not sunglasses.
We know JP very well on here, TYVM, many of us personally.

He was talking about visors or goggles, as mentioned elsewhere.
Glasses or sunglasses would not/could not be deemed to be "eye
    protectors".

Eye protectors must conform - but there is nothing to say that you
need them (think open face helmet.)
It`s something that I (along with others) are working on with the
highway code - some of it is misleading - some of it is just plain
    wrong!
