  1. Why didn't some sod tell me before I bought one with D-rings? Then I
could have arranged for it to catch in my beard...

  2. Aren't a lot of them? I've just been looking at one with lots of useful
links to handy sites, but the HTML links are royal blue, and there is
red and purple patterned wallpaper as a background. Can't read any of
    the buggers.

Well, not without downloading the page and editing it.
Ah, I'll look at the compo of the reel of silver solder in the workshop
tomorro^H^H^later this morning, but I think it has lead in it, and the
small flux-cored hanks in the toolbox (from Maplin) have no indication
of composition. I've plenty of hard silver solder sticks though, but
    only borax for flux ATM.

Still, a little longer won't hurt - they've been borked for six months.
I read that it was a mechanical mixture somewhere - and everything you
read on the www is gospel.

('Swhy I like newsgroups. You ask a question. Ken answers it. Half a
dozen others immediately chip in and tell you the real answer.)

I've been using Arai for a while. I think the visor I'm using is at
least four years old and has done something like 30,000 miles. It's not
*too* badly scratched and this is the third helmet I've used it on.
I'll use one of the two unused new ones when it obscures my vision but
since it's got a fog city attached to it I'll stick with it for the
    moment.

In the late spring/summer/early autumn I like the Arai open face
helments (the ones with the full-face visor. Very comfortable helmet
which has fantastic visibility and makes riding a bike remind me of
being 16 and riding my moped.

A.Lee scribbled on the back of a napkin:
I got a Nitro for Ann and I'm well impressed with the build quality. In
fact if they'd make one that would fit my bonce then I would have
    bought one myself.

I used a Uvex, easy enough to slide the specs on, but after a while 6
months or more, the arms began to bend a little. Was good at reducing
the misting on the specs themselves and none to be found on the visor.
    Very comfortable hat.

Currently using a Lazer Revolution flip front with a face mask, no
misting whatsoever. No need to remove the specs does the job. But do
now use ear plugs and it has a seat belt type connection. Lozzo has
made some comments about those compared to the D ring type. It is also
a lot more draughty, but I like it.

I have to disagree. Never had a problem with mine. MInd you I did
keep the neck area tidy which may make the difference.

Never had a problem with any make. However, helmets can be hard on
the frames. I do not use my latest pair of very expensive vari-focals
on the bike but my previous pair. The only downside of this is that
it is harder to read small scale maps.

You went out and bought varifocals? Do you not read a single post of

    Well done[1].

1600g for my XS one, larger sizes up to 100g more.

[1] I taught my son to say "NOW!" if someone asked him what the magic
word was if he hadn't said please. His grandmother was not very happy
about that, and he didn't get his drink.
