Problem is.. stepdad... me... hasn't got a say... think it's nonsexual at mo.... if he does anything.... watch out! kp
And if the parent of the child knowingly allows sexual activity to occur, the parent will be up for criminal charges. In Queensland, at least. Bill
Nope. If you want full details, I have personal experience of the legality of this quite recently. And a recent girlfriend of mine had a her partner in jail for 3 months because she was a couple of months short of being legal. Trust me, I KNOW the law on this one these days. And no, I have not transgressed that law, but realise how damn close you can go sometiumes. A girlfriend a couple of years ago I thought was in her mid-20s when I first met her. Turns out she was 18. Legally OK. Morally? I dunno. But she started it, she's a very persuasive young lady who gets what she wants. She's 20 now and living in Clemville. Intelligent, lovely girl who I still stay in contact with. But a year earlier and if she had chosen not to mention her age, it may have been me in jail. Her partner who ended up in clink DID know her age but figured as it was only a couple months and he wasn't hugely different in age (compared to me a year later) that it didn't matter. It was consensual. Not only did he spend 3 months in jail, but it ruined his career. She also spent quite a while tearing herself up over what she did to him. It's fucking complex. So, no. I'm speaking from personal experience (and a hatred of TV, especially American TV). But keep 'em apart. It's not worth it. They'll grow up soon enough. (And if you think that isn't enough, I ended up in a similar situation earlier this year, this time I did know she was 19, but she was equally persuasive. I'm not sure what this generation are up to sometimes, but I'm also not stupid.)
Regardless of the terminology it's certainly illegal in all states although IIRC the penalties differ from state to state, and the precise details of what is and isn't illegal Dog knows what the rules are in NZ though JL
<snip> I think you'll find he's being pedantic about the terminology - I don't believe any of the Australian states use statutory rape - it used to be carnal knowledge of a minor in NSW (when consensual obviously) the name's been changed IIRC to standardise with Vic QLD etc about 5 years ago IIRC The rules do still differ state to state though (I think the NSW rule about close age difference is unique to here) JL
It does differe from state to state but it is either 16 or 17 (it's 17 here in Tasmania, despite the jokes about sisters). And yes, here is an allowance made for proximity of age, but I am positive 19 to 14 is illegal in all states.
