I'm sure a lot of tourists are working. There are some 78,000
(according to the gov't dept that stamped their passports) illegals
that have overstayed their visa/entry permits by more than five years.
I assume they are getting an income from something.

    Eh?

Having worked for a couple of "we hire immigrants" kind of places, right
to work is real high on the list. they can't do the paperwork without.

  4. That may be true for some of the places. However if you were to venture
outside of the "big smoke", there are plenty of places that will employ
people with out the right kind of paperwork.

Hammo's right. There are more "unauthorised" people from the Pacific
working in rural Oz than there are back at home manning the offshore
    concentration camps.

I've never been asked that question. The only time that anything
remotely like that is asked is when I actually start work with them and
they need my taxfile number for payroll purposes.

Yes, I need the right to work from inm office.
For that, I need a certificate from ACS saying that I can do my job (after
    paying 350$, off course).

    Great country yours...

Nope, it's not an strict rule, it's a good way to make money for nothing!
And by the way, I didn't insult anybody.

I'm not sure I understant this part of your message...
Well, I can find the humor here:
I don't wan to go to South Africa, I'd like to live with kangaroos, they're
    better than diamonds.

    Ok, now I get it.

The real problem is that they do not assure me they'll give me the visa and
I don't want to loose all this money.
Now we're searching for any kind of temporary visa wich allow me to work.
Once there I will apply for the permanent visa.

    Any Idea?

    Thank you for everything...

Perhaps due to the almost total collapse of the local consulting
    market ...
These seem to work out well, although there's a bunch of
restrictions on what you can do, I believe.

Yes you have to change employers every 3 months - backpackers can't legally
    obtain permanent jobs

And btw the immigration dept has been doing a lot of crackdowns in the last 18
months so if you want to live in Sydney or Melbourne and work in IT you ARE
likely to be audited - my employer was audited not long ago.

I'm not worried about being audited.
The problem is that I'm going to pay for nothing. If I pay for the visa and
then they do not accept my application (even if everithing it's ok)

Well, I'm moving this discussion to misc.immigration.austalia+nz because
    here it's a little OT.

Thanks a lot for the info.
