Having solved the problem of no waterproofs for sometime now by not
    riding when it's wet <insert comment about being a wuss here> What's
the FOAK reckon on replacements for the Voyager jacket and trousers
that I stuffed a couple of years back?

Seems that Heinze Gherkins webshite is stuffed - or are they no more

I could put some cheapo plastic waterproofs over my leathers but TBH I
hate having to stop on en-route and hop about on one leg underneath
bridges by the side of the motorway etc every time there's a few drops
    of rain.

The Journey GTX looks good and has the zip-on storm collar the Voyager
had. I also noticed that Held do a jacket similar to the Voyager in
spec, with a zip-on storm collar available as an option.

GLF Accessories sell the Held one - I think Champ has one so he can tell
    you how useful it is.

The Journey is every bit as good as the Voyager, afaict. Simon may be
along in a minute to confirm how well he's getting on with his.

IYTM Cruise? Journey != Cruise AFAICT as the HG site is still borked.

And the Cruise? I love it, completely dry, no drafts, nada. I've yet to
try it in really hot weather, but I reckon it will be pretty good.

I've had just about every possible combination jacket up to the ToR
Halversson. Trouble with that and the Voyager etc. is the bulk and movement
restriction. The Hal in particular feeling tight and inflexible, this being
the penalty for emulating the protective properties of leather and keeping
    warm.

I've disposed of them all now and prefer decent leathers with a warm zip in
lining and I wear a lite HG PVC waterproof jacket over the top. It isn't a
faff as I leave the HG on over the leather and treat it as a single jacket.
So I get the abrasion resistance and CE armour without bulk and movement
restriction at about the same weight. PVC is more waterproof than the best
Goretex. I get the neck closed much more snugly without feeling I have a
starched collar on. I also have a double cuff, nothing beats good gloves
with the leather inside the cuff and the HG on the outside.

So better all round for the cost of £40 over my summer jacket.

On the leggings front I do use a pair of HG goretex cordura overtrousers
with the hipprotec armour because I can pull them on over my work trousers.

In the 5 or 6 years I've had my Voyager kit I've never had a problem
with feeling like it's too bulky or too heavy. I don't particularly like
wearing nylon or PVC oversuits over leathers because I end up cold but
sweaty. My Gericke kit is warm, 100% waterproof and durable. There's no
way I'd go out on a day like today in leathers with a nylon oversuit,
but I wouldn't think twice about putting my textile gear on and riding
    off into the sunset.

    I didn't say nylon!

Anyway my leather jacket is nicely warm and I have the Gerbing inner for
extreme weather. Then again it is a good Dainese jacket.

Popped into the one local to work, didn't see the journey. They're
selling the cruise which looks kind of similar to the voyager,
unfortunately it's last years stock so I couldn't find an appropriate
    size.
HG are getting stock from another store in foreign parts if that
doesn't fit I'll swan up to darkest bedfordshire.

That's what I've seen and tried on. I'll be trying on the largest size
when they get it in next week sometime.

I really didn't find this an issue with my previous voyager. It
certainly looked bulky and I wouldn't wear it as a causal jacket but
on the bike it was fine.

I've tried this and don't like it.

I find that the Hal isn't too inflexible, but it's bloody heavy. IMO they
should have done some sort of variable-thickness inner, rather than the
full-coverage heavy contract Axminster. It's also a bastard to comfortably
equip with armour, and the outer is not entirely waterproof. That said, I
do like the way the waterproof shell is on the outside, as opposed to the
Voyager which takes on a couple of gallons in the outer Cordura sponge any
    time it rains.
That's pretty much what I'll be going for when it's time to replace the Hal.
Alpinestars Jet Road overtrousers. Zips to hips. Second winter and still
    effective. Pwnage.

  17. It is a safety feature for the athletically proportioned. It
substantially affects our power/weight ratio, which results in
significantly lower roads speeds. Half the speed, twice the fun and at
    no extra effort.
