heated grips

  1. Seeing as the rest of the world is asleep, I have nothing to do but harrass
    you people.
I'm going to build me some heated grips...because I live on a big hill and
it gets cold this time of year...down to 0 or even -5 C and the merkins who
build Goldwings didnt put any on
    And here is how to do it;

    http://www4.tpgi.com.au/kkmiller/bike/hotgrips.htm

And more than you can shake the proverbial stick at:
    http://www.steliosh.net/moto/heatedgrips/

including instructions on how to make your own from
    http://homepage.sunrise.ch/mysunrise/joerg.hau/mot/hotgrip.htm

    http://www.rrr2.de/phil/motorrad/schraub/index.html is instructions
on making a much fancier set with stepless heater control, but it's
in german and even http://world.altavista.com/babelfish/tr won't help
unless you have reasonable electrical/electronic smarts. IN other words,
if circuit diagrams tell their own story, you'll be fine.

    http://www.ebbo.org/homemade_heated_grips.html is another home-made one.

I used to have a link to an Aussie page, a guy in Canberra I think, but
    can't find it.

  2. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "fulliautomatix"
Have a look at http://www.warmfit.com/html/Instructions.htm for a type
that's worthwhile copying. Seriously, this design lasts forever, unlike
    the ordinary grip heater.

  3. Looks good, thanks
I have not seen this idea before but it would be much less messy than
    mucking about with the grips.

Do they take much longer to get hot...seeing as it has to heat the handlebar
tube and all that before you feel it?

Just a little bit longer, but not much. It's basically a ceramic
wirewound resistor mounted in end blocks made of hightemp rubber of some
sort. They just slip in and are controlled by a series/parallel switch
    for two heat settings.

I bought a set of these years ago and they've went from bike to bike
with me. Something you can't do with conventional heated grips.
