Guess who was watching "Dastardly[1] & Muttley" on cable[2] in the hotel
    a couple of nights ago?

[1] And I have now been in UKRM long enough that I Googled to make sure
    I'd got the correct spelling...
[2] Well, it was that or "Tina Gets Fucked Up The Arse *Again*", and
    I've seen that.

We have a considerable amount of D&M on tape here, which keeps the
kids quiet for hours. Not to mention the PS2 game, which is a riot.

Should you feel the need ...

fat bastard on a bike secured a place in history by writing:
    I couldn't contemplate a long journey without R4. But there isn't that
intensity of focus needed driving a car, and the tendency is to pick
'interesting' routes on a bike and not sit for miles of motorway. I
frequently find I get to the end of a R4 programme and discover I have
reached my destination with no recollection of having driven there. I
can't imagine I could ever do this on a bike, it would scare the hell out
    of me.
    Now that's a good tip....heads in a Googly direction....

    Thanks

Koss plugs. Throw away the foam plugs they come with and cut some pukka ear
    plugs to fit.

    prose along the lines of:
I did that once and fell asleep and fell off my bike.

I'm using in-ear phones, but there's enough sticking out for them to be
uncomfortable. I guess I'm looking for headphones that are more in-ear
than most - the Koss plugs that flashgorman rec'd look promising...

Fucking right. Three 2 1/2 hour VHS tapes with a full series on each
of them, a quid each off eBay. 7 and a half hours of kiddie
entertainment that they watch over and over again, for a fiver
including postage. That's a serious bargain no matter how you cut it.

    Oh, yeah ... ****.

I've now got an autocom pro now but the cheap and cheerful predecessor were
the Koss plugs - they're head and shoulders above any other earplugs IMHO
(not too tight, act as earplugs to keep out noise, great bass response, and
actually stay IN my ears when I'm putting on my lid (most of the other
buggers hurt like hell after 100 miles and end up falling out or getting
jammed halfway round my cheek when I pull the lid on) - go buy those Koss
    plugs now!

    Sony MDR-EX70LP or variants.

Plug type, ie they fit *inside* your ears as opposed to ear bud type. THus
dead comfy under a lid. At least they do in my Shoei X900, as they have a
    nice cavity for your lugholes...

The only problem I've found with the koss plugs is they could do with a
cutout switch on the wires to allow you to turn them off without trying to
get hold of your mp3player. Any electrical types know how to go about this?

Same principle as when I add switches in the house.

Down to B&Q, buy a surface-mount switch box and a light switch.

Cut one wire on the earplugs.
Bare the ends, one goes in one side of the switch, one in the other.

Cable tie the switch box to your leathers.

    Job done[1].

[1] Electronics-types may be able to come up with a smaller solution.

Many moons ago, I was walking through the local boy racer hot spot with
pimpley little oiks screeching their 1.3 Escorts and 950cc Fiestas[1],
whilst blasting out whatever was fashionable in them days.

Along come this 60-70 year old duffer with his brand new Range Rover,
splitting out Frank Sinatra at a significantly louder volume.

    Rather amusing at the time.

[1] yes, it was *many* moons ago.
