Halfords used to sell a 25% brighter Xenon bulb. They now trumpet a 50%
brighter bulb. Marketing hype? 'kin 'ell it is not. They are a bit pricey
at £12 but I just put two of them into a cage with particularly poor dipped
beam and *what* a difference. Very white light too. Worth the extra.
    Standard 55/60 wattage.

    Makes a nice change

    Hi Hog,

I bought one recently as the lights on my bike were appallingly bad.
I've found that on main beam its absolutely superb but still poor on
dipped (but better than it was). Do you find that there's a huge
difference between dipped and main (as in going from being able to
see every tiny object on the road to cats eyes and white lines only)?
I was wondering if I had a wiring fault on dipped even before you
    posted this.

Well the main beam pattern was fine before now it's just better and the dip
is *excellent* so it might be worth checking your connections or for a
voltage drop. Could just be a crap reflector though.
You could also try moving the headlight up a bit, pointing a bit low
    perhaps?

    Yerbut, they're not ackshirley /Xenon/, are they? They're bluey-tinted
    conventional bulbs, loike.

Now /these/ are the real deal...

Aye and look at the price. I'm not sure HID bulbs are going to be so great
without the shell designed for the technology.

Now I specifically said white light NOT the blue bulbs, which are crap.
These are better than the very pricey PIAA Super Whites.

I use Halfords 130/90 bulbs, with extra relays and heavy duty wiring. Jobs a
    good 'un.

Ah, that was the route I wanted to avoid. Car electrics ain't much fun and
also I want to leave enough wattage for some driving lamps. I'll get an
    autoleccy to fit them.
