I don't usually suffer, but the past few days I've been waking with a
snuffly nose and gummed up eyes. Naturally I don't like this, and it
doesn't seem to clear up during the day.

So, what's the best off the shelf hayfever treatment? Ideally something
    mild and slow release.

It is a case of trying them - ask the pharmacist. Piriton alleviates the
symptoms but sends me to sleep big time, so is great at night.
I have yet to find a daytime remedy that works but doesn't cause
drowsiness. Everyone reacts differently to proprietry antihistamines so
I suggest you test your chosen one when you don't have to ride / drive.
    I wish you well.

I fare well with Beconase as a nose spray. Though it's house dust
in my case an not hayfever.

Theres 2 different types, one you'll get on with, one you wont

Pirit on/ease is one (dunno latin name)

    Clarityn is the other

Read the back of the box and check the long name

Not /strictly/ off the shelf, but a course of desensitising injections cured
    me.

Last time I needed to take anything it was Triludan, though I think that's
now prescription only, since they discovered that taking it with grapefruit
juice causes heart attacks. Piriton was pretty good too.

I use the boots one-a-day (currently on 3 for 2 offer).

If it gets really bad (like just now), I take one at night and one in
    the morning.

    No drowsiness so farrrrrrrrrrrzzzzzzzzzzzz

It's the one with the soggy hanky, thanks.
