Just got the FJR done for another year, down from £350 to £275, Fully
comp. Great. But I've been looking at a 'busa on ebay so before I
bid I decided to see just how much it would cost me.

Only one company would cover me, at nearly a grand a year! Kinell.
I've been riding for 31 years, live in a low rated area, but for some
reason I have yet to explore, I seem to only hold 2 years NCB? And no
    garage, which doesn't help.

So much for dreams... anyone on here got a 'busa? How much for
    insurance and who with?

    Sounds cheap to me.
    This line is very strange.

Why would you not know why you have 2 years NCB?

I had one in 2000 - last insurance (fully comp - 100 ukp excess) was
just under 200 quid. Carole Nash.

  4. the garage is a big issue , quotes i received recently had a £1000
difference between garaged and non garaged on a hornet

on a new fireblade I am considering , 1 years nod 695 with Honda up to 1800
local broker garaged ungaraged no one would touch me
theft exclusion if stolen from outside my home unless garaged

  7. Sorry mate can't help you there.

But you might be able to help me. What's the FJR13 like? Are they
any good/reliable? I've heard stories about dodgy valves and
camshafts etc on the early models. Is there any truth in these
    rumours?

I seem to recall asking you about the FJR many moons ago, but you
might have a different answer now you've had it a while.

    TIA

Ohhhh, sir, have you, er, done it sir? Letch... (Given it real beans
that is?) And, was it as comfy for a pillion as I hear it is? Oh,
and do they REALLY eat tyres at 2k each?
Hmm, must give dear Carol a quick call on monday! Thanks.

    Yup. It was quick.
Dunno - never took a pillion on it.
No. That's utter bollocks. I got nearly 1600 miles out of the first
tyre (while I was running it in). 600 off the second tyre and about
    1000 per tyre after that.

    Weeeeellll.... <fx - cracks knuckles>

I've one of the first ones, now 2 1/2 years old, and a mere 18,000
miles. I like it very much, it's comfy as ****, goes well if you give
it some and can handle quite well (for a tourer) too. The pegs are a
bit ground down on the right. Some ramblings...

I average about 38mpg, 200 miles to a tank including 90% of reserve.
Back tyres last me about 6k.
Squared tyres REALLY **** the handling.
    Service intervals at 6k.
Pillions love it (Jan fell asleep on the back on thew way to the
Midlands a couple of years ago) and I hardly even notice them on
    there.
The weather protection is quite good. I often ride a few miles in the
rain with just tracksuit on and only get a bit damp.
Redlines at a mere 9k. This means gearchanges come around v. quick,
as does 155 mph with the screen up and 2 up.
    Feels undergeared.
Doesn't stunt. Well, not with me on board. I could stoppie my
Thunderace with ease, but this just slides the front tyre.
It is a tourer, albiet with more beans than a Pan.
The Yamaha panniers are lozenge shaped so square things won't fit in
them!!! (And mine smell of many spilt curries!)
Finish is typical Yamaha, it has scratched in several places and the
castings have that lovely furry finish.
Brakes are typical yamaha too, siezing every time it rains.

BUT I have had a few warranty claims...

    In no particular order.

New wiring harness. Engine kept cutting out and the lights failing.

    Sidestand switch.

Valves and guides. Engine made a loud squeak from the top every time
it was warm started. Cured. Mechanics at Yam HQ workshop said they
    had never seen it before.

New Battery. It was draining in 2 days. Turned out to be wrongly
    wired alarm.

Nearside handlebar switch cluster. A knob fell off.

And out of warranty I had to rebuild the forks. The seal started
leaking on one leg, so I looked and found the chrome lifting on the
staunchion. Just a tiny bit, but enough to rip the seals. Cost more
for a new staunchion than to send the pair away and have them re
chromed with a promise they'll last 10 times longer than a factory
finish. So I did. Used thicker oil, but it's really too heavy.

I'm sure it would be a great mile eater. Going to Spain? See ya
there. Norway? I'm with ya. But my life is not the same one I had
when I bought it and I don't get the chance to do miles anymore, so
I'm tempted to flog it and get something with a bit more acceleration
and easier to raise one wheel or another.

It's a great bike in it's niche; fast mile eating.

    HTH.

I also spent a lot of time at the Suzuki dealers having new parts fitted
under warranty - but I believe that's standard with all the lesser
    Japanese manufacturers offerings.

No, not at all - I just think £1000 for a Hayabusa, fully comp, sounds quite
    reasonable.
Were I able to even FIND someone to quote me, it would be in the region of
    £2000 f/c.

Yeah but don't you keep track of it?

In what way? U still want one or now do you want a 'BusA? Remember my
claims were a bit more than usual and others aren't getting the same
    problems.
