Hayabusa problems

  1. Anyone encountered this out there?

    Since I got the busa in Melbourne a few months ago, it has been
    hesitating at low throttle settings. I didn't notice it on the test
    ride but certainly noticed it when I picked up to bring back here. I
    thought at first I was fouling plugs in Melbourne traffic but it
    hasn't gone away.

    I phoned Peter Stevens at Ringwood where I bought it and they said it
    was due to the Yoshi cans that were on it (2nd hand 2000 model) and
    that it needed to be remapped ...

    Anyway - took it to a good mechanic here who has a dyno and the gizmo
    to remap the Soozook pooter and it didn't fix it. The bike went better
    but it still hesitates as you open from low throttle settings. I was
    told that there wasn't fine enough mapping available on the standard
    ECU and that I should put a Power Commander in so he can set those low
    throttle settings.

    I find this all a bit weird. Surely everyone that sticks cans on a EFI
    bike these days doesn't have to go through this? Anyone else put
    Yoshis on a busa without problems?

    I'm inclined to just find some stock cans and put them back on ...

    Thoughts folks?

    Been down the tweaking route and find that you are perpetually chasing
    your tail, change one thing, something else needs changing ...

    That's what I keep telling myself, but I also use it as a commuter and
    that's where it is a pain (ie - every day). Out at lunchtime for
    instance, following a car up through the city and I open the throttle
    just a tad to pick up a few k's and the bike actually slows down a
    little then fires up - it's not extreme, just annoying. Pain in the
    arse in tight corners in the wet (ie roundabouts).

    Have you got cans on yours Paul?

    I'm prepared to go down the Power Commander road, but only if I can be
    sure it'll fix the problem. The mechanic said he'll fit and dyno the
    PC for free for me (because he was sure the remapping would work and
    it didn't, so he said he'd get it working) but it's still an outlay of
    $700-$800

    Check out www.doinbikes.com.au and make sure if you're going to get it
    remapped with the PC that you get someone with a load test dyno and the
    Tuning Link software. This should completely erradicate your bogging down
    problem at low revs and smaller thottle openings. It's obviously a fuelling
    problem caused by the yoshi pipes. The stock ECU's are pretty lame when it
    comes to compensating for them, and they're also usually lean at the usual
    4k mark for emissions and sound testing.

    Now, if it was a BMW I'd be suggesting you check the TPS is
    zeroed correctly. No idea if that's the same on the Chickenhawk.

  8. That did come up earlier and we checked it, I don't believe that is
    the case, it really feels like a bad fuel/air ratio at that throttle
    setting.

    Hiya Kevin
    Though I don't own a Hirebus, I have heard that they don't like
    aftermarket pipes without having the ECU played with.
    Putting on the standard mufflers back on has it's own proplem, I beleive
    the linkpipes have to be cut to remove the standard mufflers so that your
    Yoshis can be fitted, Makes refitting the standards a problem, Don't quote
    me on this, Just something i've heard.

  14. Ahh - so _that's_ what caused it then?
    (Methinks that he couldn't see the Colt due to the fact his front
    wheel was at eye level :)

    Kev, if the battery was disconnected on the injected R1100/1150BMW's, the
    bike would be twitchy and surge-y on small throttle openings after
    reconnecting. The thing to do was to turn the ignition on but not start it,
    then open the throttle fully three times, turn off, then start normally. It
    resets things, but is most noticeable on small throttle openings.

    Would cost nothing to try it on the Hairybush.

    Isn't the idea of the EFI and computerised engine management systems is
    to be able to cater for such changes? ie: adjust the fuel/air mixture as
    sensed in the exhaust gases, etc.?

    Or don't the modern bikes with EFI have this capability?
