Has anyone seen my tax disc

  1. Note: * = denomination issued for use in the colonies, usually in
Ceylon, Malta, or the West Indies, but normally counted as part of the
    British coinage.[/QUOTE]

So what you're saying is that Lozzo is a descendant of someone so
incredibly tight they counted things in one-sixteenth of an old penny?

Not unless his Maltese ancestors actually came from Ceylon as that's
where the quarter farthing* was used.

*Originally 'fourthing' from it being a quarter of a penny, and pennies
often were snipped in half or to quarters before the farthing became a
    coin in it's own right.

The jars I sling silver in I will bother to count and bag but to be frank
I consider my time better spent doing other things rather than scrabbling
through pennies - hence I'm happy to use the services of a "pikey with a
    counting machine".

  5. Actually, I can just see The Spiccy One with a pair of tin-snips and an
    old penny.

The BiL got us one of those "smash 'em when they're full" money pots
the Xmas before last. We've only put £2 coins in, for 16 months, I can
barely lift it, and it's about 3/4 full.

I think I'll bag them up when we smash it.

Wot he said, unless I get some spare time to do it at work. :)

Heh... The old 'old pennies' before farthings were minted actually had
a cross on the back to make snipping them easier.

I still don't relish the advent of the euro in the UK though. Daft really, I
mean, does it matter which currency we're being bought with?

I have lots (about 18 I think) of silver threepenny bits because
everybody gave their pudding prizes to me when I was little.
