But Clem, you have clipped too much. I wrote: "I understand that they don't
handle, don't brake etc. but I've not ridden one to be able agree or disagree
and I don't have an urge to do so." I didn't say that I *knew* they didn't
    brake or handle.

I wouldn't own one becuase I (a) dislike the sound and (b) loathe the looks.
Besides, I'm not fat enough to ride one

Quite likely that they do the job they were meant to do. My wants don't match
    them.

    I wouldn't own a sports bike either. They don't match my body - I couldn't
ride any distance crouched up like that.

Not compared to cars. And cars don't corner like bikes. But in the 4WD
stakes, I've got the most comfortable, best handling and braking 4WD that I
can afford - a late model Rangie. But given a hard braking situation on a wet
road, I'll take the Rangie anytime over a bike.

H-D thinks so... otherwise their marketing campaign is not working. When you
talk to teens and pre-teens about motorcycles, "Harley" comes up pretty
    quick, "Guzzi" never :)

Fair enough. They don't appeal to a lot of motorcyclists, sort of like
    Huskies and CR500s and R1s...
The riders braked and kept the bikes vertical. So what has that got to do
    with the bikes?

And yet you feel compelled to barge in and tell everyone!

That's the bit I find amazing; that everyone HAS to have an opinion on Harleys and HAS to tell everybody else
(even though they admit to having zero actual experience!)
I've never seen you crapping on about KTM, MV Agusta, Husaberg, Piaggio or Cagiva and I can't even recall you
talking about Ducati, Guzzi, Triumph, Kawasaki or Yamaha.......
....but you've got full-on heartfelt opinions on Harley. (As has, it seems, EVERYBODY who's never ridden one)

I've got an opinion on Harleys too Clem: I'd own one if I could buy one in
reasonable rideable condition for under $2k.

    I reckon that's a fair price for a 15-20 year old machine, but I don't like
my chances of finding one for that! ;-)

I'll give you $2k. The only difference between your price & mine is a
    zero, and a zero's nothing anyway... ;-)

Hey, everyone in this NG barges in tells everyone else their opinions about
everything - experience or no. What's so different here? The fact that in
    this case it's a Harley.
Harleys and HAS to tell everybody else
My opinion was merely that I don't like them. Perhaps I shouldn't have
repeated what I've been led to understand.
Cagiva and I can't even recall you
Wrong. I own a Piaggo (Vespa - you weren't specific), I've mentioned Ilike
the gorgeous looks of a Ducati (I haven't ridden a Duke for over 35 years), I
mentioned in another post I'd be tempted by a Guzzi (but not the Cali) - it's
got lots going for it . I haven't got to the rest yet. Trumpy? Yep, there's
a few their stable I think I could live with. MV Agusta. No, I haven't yet
ridden one but my wife's cousin has offered a ride on his F4 when I get to
Switzerland next year. Yamahas? I've owned 3 or is it 4. Hondas - Only 2.
Suzuki? Only 2. Kawa - none yet. So many bikes so little time. The fact
that I may have owned a brand doesn't make me an expert on that brand - nor is
    anyone else here.
    EVERYBODY who's never ridden one)

And what's wrong with that? How many people are Ford men and loath Holdens
without wever owning one (or vice versa)?

I have been advised by the Committee that if I ride a Harley on any club
runs my Presidency is in danger of immediate termination.

Gregg Prechelt (who later bought my Trump).
I can't remember (50 innit? then probably not! I remember almost running up a cow's arse as I was first
getting used to the Fatboy and cocked-up a pot-holed corner. I had a run on his wife's Dyna-Glide too but the
    Fatboy was the pick.)
    1997(-ish).

We went up to the OTC station (or it was probably Telstra by then) but didn't knock.
Norfolk Island is a lovely place. We had a totally free holiday there but we'll probably go back as paying
customers one day. (If only to buy the incredibly cheap alcohol from the bond-store!)
