I think it's great that kawa keep reliable models in production for so
long. Like the klr250 and 650. How many decades? They kept the 100cc two
stroke trail bike in the usa catalog until just recently.

Actually, in the world market the other japanese moto makers keep older
models in production. You can still buy a brand new yamaha DT175 in the
    right country. honda cubs too.

    10 years, huh?

Must be some of that "new math".

    False dichotomy.

CHP "Commissioner Helmick noted that the Department has not lost an
officer since BMW was first awarded a contract to provide motorcycles,
and he added that the ABS brake system has reduced the number of
    injuries suffered in motorcycle-related accidents."

    "December 21, 2001
"Woodcliff Lake, NJ - (MCNW) For the fifth year in a row, the California
Department of General Services has selected BMW motorcycles for use by
the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The state will purchase 400+ BMW R
1150 RT-P motorcycles from A&S BMW Motorcycles of Roseville, CA over a
    two-year period, beginning in January."

    Nine years, not ten.

    /me rolls eyes.
Actually, guessing it was only a year off is pretty good for me. There's
yesterday, a couple months ago, and a while ago in my mental calendar.

Add ABS, run-flat tires, a bigger alternator, a bigger battery, and a
box in the back instead of a pillion seat ... sure.

When did the CHP move to Woodcliff Lake, NJ?

Strictly speaking, they did lose an officer, but a passing motorist found his cruiser submerged in a
ditch. Why don't you check their memorial and compare how many have "augured in" before and after
    the switch?

    2002 is the fifth year.

Why didn't the press release just say they've been supplying bikes for the last 2 millennia?

That's the CHP officers who died each year, not just the ones who ride
    motorcycles who died.

All of the motorcycle wrecks are spelled out. As are car wrecks, gunshots, sui^h^h^h accidental
    discharges.

I'm surprised you didn't point out that all of the fatalities in the early years were motorcycle
crashes as proof that the BMWs are safer.

Oh, I meant that in the most sincere way..

I certainly can appreciate the fact that the '06 Californias still uses
pretty much the same good ol' Tonti frame that my '75 850-T features.
I just wonder sometimes if its retro by design or through necessity..

Wow! Most of the CHP officer deaths in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s were due
    to motorcycle accidents.
