Running a little late for an appointment in Taree this afternoon I wasn't
wasting any time on my ride into town.
Approaching Purfleet I passed a lone Harley who promptly set off in pursuit.
Having exited the expressway & negotiated the roundabouts at a lively pace I
was about to steady up when confronted by a small blue car in front so
quickly switched to the left lane, shot in front & settled down for the 70
    KPH crawl into Taree.
Not to be outdone, Mr Black Pudding then caught up, roared past on my left
well after his lane had ended & continued on to tailgate the traffic ahead,
obviously looking for an opportunity to pass them also.
OK, OK, I'm impressed but not interested lol.
Just then I heard a siren & flashing blue lights behind me. The unmarked
'small blue car' chicane I had just passed...gulp...well, it had to happen
    sooner or later I guess.
I started to pull over only to have the car ignore me & continue on after
the Harley to nail him a little further up the road.
I was able to cautiously continue on past without hindrance...whew!.. guess
    Harleys are useful after all...

  2. They sure are!!

I had a nice ride on one the other day around Cairns, Kuranda and up to
    the Daintree store for lunch.

Got stuck in Cairns for 2 days en-route to PNG :)

It's a sick pleasure to see someone who was (mildly) annoying you get
    pulled-over; but it it's still a pleasure none-the-less!
I was lane-splitting through heavier-than-normal traffic yesterday but the
feller on the Hyosung behind me went up the bicycle/emergency lane instead
    (a personal hate of mine).
Then I saw a black Commodore move into the emergency lane an accelerate past
the stopped traffic and I thought "that's a bit rude".... until I saw the
blue-and-red lights come on and he pulled the Hyosung into a sidestreet.
I hate myself but it made my day!

I think it's better and safer to go up the side lane than to wriggle
    through the traffic.

If there's a bicycle in the lane that's different.

It was NOT me on the Hyo.

Amusingly I did get done for speeding a few weeks ago, and the cop did
not seem amused when I laughed as he called my learner-legal 250cc bike
"built for speed" from the comfort of his 5.7L (presumably-worked) commode.

So do a lot of bikers.
I reckon that lane's there for emergencies and bicyclists and we should have
the manners to stay out of it (like the car-drivers do).

That's it, I'm going to try to get a speeding ticket on the CT90 this
    afternoon.

Umm... lanes are for cars, and when a car is in the lane other cars
    stay out of it.

The "emergency" lane is for breakdowns, if there's a breakdown then a
bike can't use it. If there's a bicycle in the lane then don't harass
the bicycle, lane split around it and go.

But if there's neither one or the other, why lanesplit?

Why perform a more dangerous and equally illegal move?

huh? Cars go wherever cars fit. If they can overtake in the same lane they
    do (just like bikes do).
So you'd have no problems with cars using it when there're no breakdowns and
    bicycles?

    Not "lanesplitting" as such.

    Passing illegally and all that.
According to you above, cars would lanesplit if they could. So the
only difference between you and them is that you are a bit
    narrower....

THe major difference with bike/breakdown lanes is that a car can't get
    out of the way easily.

What on earth is this bizarre argument you're trying to make Zebee? How
does a car or bike's surmised behavour on the road and "illegality" have any
bearing on whether we should leave the emergency-lanes to the people they
    were created for?
    And?
