My Fazer is sometimes a lil' temperamental to start and if I don't give
her about five revs will just conk out (without using the choke).
Sometimes when I come to a traffic light on red, or some other
standstill like at a petrol station or summink it does the same; just
dies. Any ideas what the most likely cause is? I'm booking it into the
local dealer in a couple of weeks but just wondering what the damage is
    likely to be?

What is the idle speed when warm? It could be that its to slow, but SWKB
    will be here soon.

Just under 1k. I don't really know anything about bikes but I'm sure you
shouldn't need choke when its 20 degrees....

Getting her looked at next month so won't worry about it till then..

I had a simmilar problem on my GSXR, sometimes hard to start and would cut
out at lights or even worse when I was slowing down and pulled the cluch in
to change down, not good when going in to a set of bends. Have a look in
the HBOL or google for idle speeds. It is normally a simple black knob on
the side of the bike, give it a little twist when the bike is ticking over
and take it for a spin. You can always turn it back if you mark the point
    that was at twelve o'clock.

Actually yes it has had a headlamp improvement.... the plot thickens.
About to book it into Bowers over in Bury now for its 14k service.. will
get the pros to look at it. Since I'm still a n00b I'd like to make
sure it's in proper working order and I've not had it checked over since
    I bought it in March.

Thanks for all your comments folks :)

    I'm a complete donut.

I accidentally knocked the little dial on the near side whilst cleaning.
Turning it manages to put the revs back to 1k and stops the cutting
out. Thought I'd post back here so you could all laugh at me.
