Hard Tails are a bit rougher on you than a soft tail...no doubt. But
yes, you can ride them for distance if you can take the pounding.

And don't forget, a lot of hard tails are really soft tails with the
suspension hidden somewhere in the bike. ;-)

....that would be a soft tail.

A hard tail or a rigid is a one piece frame. There's no "technically"
about it. It's either or it's not.

And for BJay, I'd pay $15 grand for a rigid. Those are the bikes you
see that are going for $30,000+. Generally, when you find a rigid
bike, they're fabbed from tubing and made into unique shapes to get
different effects for molding in the other components. Everything on
those bikes are built around the frame design. And yes, they're a kick
in the ass (more ways than one) to ride! They'll lock you into the
road and make you feel like you're riding something instead of sitting
on a cushion watching a video game.

I think I'd rather be on a cushion, watching something other than
    a video game.

    Thanks - Gary

I agree with you. I was merely trying to point out that a lot of hard
tails aren't really hard tails, but they do a good job of hiding it.
