Are we having a deposit system in place this time? If I remember
correctly there were a few pikey wankers who said they'd appear and
then couldn't be arsed after Mu had done her usual feed everyone plus
    anyone who wasn't expected bit.

I didn't give a rats arse about chipping in extra to make sure she
wasn't out of pocket but I felt that it might have made her question
if it was worth laying on such a decent spread for us all in future.
Collecting said deposit could be a problem given your dislike of
complications but failing that can we please have a name and shame
procedure set up for anyone who fails to appear without a seriously
    good reason.

Unfortunately I was there on my own and didn't have anyone else to
    help warm it up.

Yes, yes, that's all very nice but what's the last time anyone can go in
and I DRGAF about curtains and frilly pillow cases cos I'll be asleep.
I wonder if the landlady TIUTA?
    Oh, **** that.
Or people coming back at "a God unearthly hour".

    Back to the drawing board..

It's amazing how a different shade of bed cover or pillow case can do
    to bring out ones complexion.
    I doubt it.
You could always sleep in a pit under a car.
They said they didn't mind me coming back late as guests stay in a
    different part of the property.
Move the meeting to London and there will be plenty of places to stay.

Nah, I'll take my tent. I saw an opportunity to travel light but it's
nothing a decent cargonet and possibly a courier bag won't sort.
I won't be moving the meeting anywhere. I like going up there and it's
just a pity I don't go out of my way to see them more regularly.

No, but it's only on occasion I can be bothered to share this
    observation.

However it should be a happy day because I'm 99% certain I've found out
why my K100 is running badly when cold; The coolant sensor seems to have
gone short circuit. Need to double check against another though since
neither Haynes, nor Clymer nor BMW's repair manual have any data on what
the resistances should be; however short circuit when cold and hot looks
    pretty suspicious to me.

I'm ashamed to admit that this was where I got the idea to check it. I
should have thought of this myself.

I think I need to take a week or so of work and carry out a serious
overhaul potentially including replacing the rings.

Still, it's not doing bad for a 20 something year old bike with almost
110k on the clock, half of which I've done over the last three years. I
really can't fault it and since it only cost me 1400 quid plus the
regular repairs (most expensive item starter clutch 95-)I think it's
probably the most economic vehicle I've owned. Bloody thing.

    They do 25k, 50k, 75k and 100k. I think people who've only ridden a
pushbike once could certainly manage the 25k[1]. It's the 75k and
    100k that are hard.

[1] In fact they do, and they're fucking annoying when they get off
and walk at the first technical bit or tough climb fucking it up for
people behind them who are capable of riding the section. This tend
to occur because the distance guys take it easy at the start are
potter of, whereas the have-a-go-heros tear off like there's no
tomorrow until the aforementioned technical bit.

    Bollocks could they.

You need to spend something like 15 years without doing any exercise and
    then try something like that.

Whilst I can happily row 5km and cycle 15km in the gym now (boredom
eventually getting the better of me) there's no way I could have cycled
25km on anything other than a completely flat surface about five years
    ago.

It's quite staggering how doing a sedentary job removed the fitness I
once had and how somethings don't seem to be coming back; running for
example- at 13 I had county cross-country trials and often came in the
top 3 in my year at school (out of about 250.) Now? I think 3-5km is
about my limit for running, I suspect though it's partially to do with
leg injuries 'cos my right knee and left ankle just aren't 'right'- it
does manifest itself as shortage of breath though.

25km isn't far and I know several people who have done it having not
previously cycled since childhood. They may not have been fast and
looking so fit at the end but they completed it. I sometimes get
"encouraged" to do a 40 mile route by a cycling-mad friend.

25km is a shade over 15 miles. On-road most unfit people could do
that pottering along in 1.5-2 hours. Offroad, double that time.

These events, a good time for the 100k is 4-5 hours and a bad one 8 so
it's not like they'd even be finishing after everyone else.

Ben, how would you know what unfit people could do? You're not old
enough (IIRC) to have been 'properly' unfit.

My observations are based on personal experience (and admittedly Gym
    exercise bikes)
