gloves and handlebar grips were, back then.

  2. I think you need fresh batteries in your vibrator so you can keep
    yourself amused, you bloody sod.

  3. Handlebars and grips, your ass! The primate hand is very obviously
intended for curling around tree branches and vines, and when you see
a heavy gorilla ambling about his cage in the zoo, he's knuckle-
walking, he's *not* carrying his impressive avoirdupois upon his palms
    like a much lighter lemur.

  4. True. There is a large empty volume inside the head of every new
rider, which can be labeled "ignorance".

The object of gaining experience is to change the label of that empty
volume to "knowledge" so that the rider can understand how to better
    enjoy his strange mechanical toy.

The optimum riding position and adjustment of controls and handlebars
is not immediately obvious to the beginning rider.

In order to ride comfortably without numbness in the hands, position
the control levers so that when your fingers are on the levers they
are in line with the backs of your hands and the backs of your hands
should be in line with your forearms.

Don't ride for long periods with your fingers "covering" the control
levers, that's just asking for finger numbness. Only cover the levers
during active maneuvering situations, like in town or when you're
    enjoying the "twisties".

Your wrists should be straight in line with your forearms and your
hands should not be turned inward or outward. Doctors call those
incorrect positions "supination" and "pronation". They are usually
referring to the position of the foot with regard to the lower legs,
    though.

If you cannot hold the grips so your hands aren't supinated or
pronated in some adverse direction, you need a whole new tubular
handlebar or you need to adjust the position of clip-on type
    individual bars.

Your elbows should be slightly bent and your weight should be
supported by your abdominal muscles, it should not be on your hands
    and elbows.

Also, whenever your weight *is* on the palms of your hands, it should
be on the part of the palm which is closer to your fingers, not the
part of the palm that is closer to your wrist.

That part of the palm is the location of the nerves that get pinched
just before your fingers go numb.

Pinching the carpal nerve causes your ring finger and little finger to
go numb. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is abbreviated "CTS" in sports
    literature.

Pinch the other nerve causes your middle adn index finger to go numb.
That's called "Guyon's Canal Syndrome" or "GCS".

  8. Just did a handlebar adjustment myself.

I'd been noticing a little numbness on the index and
middle fingers, so I tipped the bar up very slightly to
shift more load to the outside of my hands (dualsport
    type handlebars).

Using a magic marker, draw a reference line on the
bar and clamp. Loosen the clamp slightly and shift
the bar a very amount until the lines on the bar and
clamp are very slightly offset. Tighten down again
    and test.

    I like the results.

  9. No one person is the font of all wisdom and experience, but you do
    seem to have
cornered the supply of assholiness as regards motorcycles and riding
    them.
