Handing over EOSM DFV

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Lozzo, Aug 22, 2006.

  1. This is excessively poor show - especially with no apology forthcoming
either. I only hope it hasn't tainted future events. At least if it
hasn't and he does show up, he can be considered fair game and
sacrificially, uhh, sacrificed for entertainment value. Again.

Of course, the only thing that will happen now is another morph for us
to extinguish when spotted a mile off.

I thought almost everyone had done at least one trackday by now. I'm
keen to get new tyres on the RGV and do another day this year. I also
need to get a tow-hitch fitted to the Jeep and buy a trailer first,
    mind you.

Speaking of which, roughly how much does a tow-hitch cost to have
    fitted?

Well I only made it over to one, but would like to add my thanks to
those of the hordes. Glad it's being passed on t oa safe pair of
    *$%^#W hands.

Sounds like a great idea to me, and having a set of dates to choose
from might mean I'll get off my backside and do a trip over to include
one. It's never quite been the right time, or something has come up,
but I know I just need to pick a date and go for it.

Quite right too. Presumably this specific exclusion will be passed on
    to future *OSM organisers?

    bad form etc., but

    [trackday stuff]
You mention a choice of circuits around the country. Would you
consider including a circuit that's suitable/oriented towards slower
bikes (I'm being selfish here, so read: "good for an RGV250")? I'm
thinking of Lydden Hill in particular[1]. Lydden would be a great
track for those with things like SV650s and supermotos as you don't
really have to be going that fast to have a lot of fun.

[1] as in, if you choose Lydden Hill for virtually any time next year,
you can count me in already.

    Thanks Loz. Job well done!
I have to add that I had a brilliant time. I know this circuit is for
many experienced riders a bit dull, but as a trackday newbie I found it
excellent fun and would go back.

One of the instructors followed me round the track for a session and
gave me some valuable and positive feedback. It was certainly better
than I had expected and did help to give me more confidence.

So thanks Loz, I would certainly book for another day.

I heard the conversation along the lines...

Suze: I'd like to follow you now please.
Instructor: Oh no, *much* better if I follow you.

Seriously though the instruction with No Limits did seem very good.
At Oulton on Friday the "instructors" were racing each other in the
novice group. When a friend with us on their first trackday
complained, one of the instructors wheelied past him in the next
    session.

All this after a *one hour* "briefing" on safety. I won't name the
organiser here but if anyone wants to know of a company to avoid drop
    me an email.

ISTR that Tuppy, sometimes of this parish can do good deals on
    tow-hitches.

I think the last one I priced was ITRO £150.

Approx. £100 from a mobile fitter. However, given your southern
    location probably £400.

heh. There's a place that specialises in trailers and tow-hitches out
just the other side of Potters Bar, I'll give them a bell and see
    what's what.

That was with single electrics, which is all you need for a trailer.

    Unless...

    No...

    Surely not...

You're not thinking of buying a caravan, are you?

    <remembers darsy's ancestry>

Oh ****. I recommend that everyone blocks any local field entrances with
    something very, very heavy.

yeah, I did see that, but also noted that Bonwick seemed interested in
it. Also, the Jeep uses so much petrol that driving to Oxford to pick
up a 2nd hand trailer might work out more expensive than buying a new
one in Potters Bar (particularly given that I drive past the place on
the way to WGC quite frequently).

FWIW, I really like Brands Indie. Only a few corners, so you learn where the
circuit goes pretty quickly, but most of them are pretty technical, with one
or two camber changes mid-bend, so you can devote your energies to
perfecting your technique and line round a particular bend. OK - probably
not everyone's cup of tea if all you want to do is go out and ride quick,
but I really enjoy being able to play around with different approaches to a
    familiar bend.

I can see how it could get a bit frustrating on a bigger bike though.
