Received a word doc (from my Father) detailing a cash machine scam at
    Hammersmith.

    It can be read here:

Essentially it's a well concealed modification to the cash machine.

Hoax or is TOG right about the electronic witchcraft?

It's real. Well known way of reading the mag strip on the cards.
Scrote attaches it to the machine and then loiters around. Mug puts
their card in, mag strip is read and the scrote watches them enter
    their PIN.

Scrote then removes the device, makes up their own card with the
correct PIN and rapes the bank account.

Chip'n'pin is supposed to stop this for now as the scanner can't read
    the chips.

This one looks true. We got the same document emailed from City of London
    police last week.

  4. Here's an example of a similar device attached to a different sort of ATM.

  5. these readers as well as complete hoax machines have been around for
quite a while. Hence all the stickers on ATMs warning you not to use
them if you think there is anything unusual attached to the machine.

There are also lots of forged £20 notes out there with people trying to
    use them on the Underground.

Hmm, i thought that with these slightly newer devices, the hoax reader
doesn;t stop you operate the cash machine. I thought the older versions
took a swipe, then spat out your card after you tried to enter the pin.

We got an email at work warning us about those last week. Apparently one
    was discovered in Leicester Square.
