halogen bulb wiring

I've poked at it, but I'm not sure...

so when you have a halogen bulb with it's 3 prongs

Which is high, which is low, and which is earth?

Assuming you are talking about a standard 'H4' bulb, if you look at the bulb
carefully, you will see the two filaments, which are connected to a common
pin at one end that should be the LHS of the parallel vertical pins, the
other two pins will have lower resistances, the lowest being hi beam (other
vertical pin) and the other then is low beam (horizontal).

Remember to not touch the glass of the bulb with your fingers (or any other
part of your body)...
