Found a little more info here -
    http://hvnewsroom.blogspot.com/2009/08/roadhouse-service-station-was.html

but most info is on netrider type websites from riders nearly caught short
on fuel - Apparently it was new owners or somthing from what I gather and
theres lots of conjecture regarding insurance and rebuilding but I dont
think anybody really knows whats happening.

Apparently the birds in the aviary are fine tho and the old school petrol
bowsers didnt go up (if they rebuild and keep the old bowsers, we can still
laugh while watching people trying to figure em out I guess) The house is
    also fine aparently

  5. This is all the dude on patrol4x4 said

    (it happened)
On Saturday night. My olds were the ones running it, just rying to get
info together for them its about all they would have left of the old
    place.
Yeah i cant find anything anywhere on the net, a little strange its
been there for the last 54 years.

I'd buy one of them bowsers if I had a chance!!!

  6. Mhm. There's now only the roadhouse at whatever that hamlet is just
after the mad section across the crest of the mountain to fill up at
across the whole 140km of desolation between Wilberforce and Broke...

It depends upon if they have adequate insurance or not, a surprising
    number of people don't.

Even if they do it will take quite some time to do all the insurance
    stuff and get the money.

I get my fuel from Bulga before hitting the twisties (I come from Singleton
end) Its a tiny servo near a old wooden bridge - they have premium petrol
and are next door to the "cockfighter creek tavern"
    http://www.users.on.net/~prawns/tavern.jpg

From this end refueling at Bulga and heading to the halfway house, and back
to bulga is fine on petrol even with spirited riding. I wonder if police
presence will drop off with less riders from sydney heading up? (The
hardcore riders will still be there Im sure, but Ive met a few riders that
just ride to the Halfway House for a cuppa and a pose before skipping the
good twisties and heading straight back home again)

Ever since the first time I rode through there and discovered first
hand the price per litre there, I always made sure I had enough petrol
to ensure I never needed to stop there for fuel. I imagine only
people with small petrol tanks and stupid people filled up there.

Is it ok if your mates bike has a tiny petrol tank and you refuel there also
    from convenience? :p

Man, I wish my house burned down in the Vic bushfires. I'd be rolling
in cash, and have a new house to boot.

Consider me assured. I know where Chum Creek is. I'll meet them there
and they can give me all their money.

  17. Not necessarily Nev,
A bloke I met at the local Community house where I do a bit of work told me
that he was insured for the value of the house he was living in, but at the
end of the day, to get another house built would only get him a bare house
with not many furnishings, which also burned.
He also lost two Classic registered cars and seven veteran and classic
motorcycles which were in his shed.....no insurance on them.
He did get money from the Government and the local charity places, but not
enough to compensate for the loss of everything.

he would have a new house as you say, but not really rolling in money.

You would think, that when you insured your house, if you paid $48,000 for
it 15 years ago, insurance of $150,000 would cover it adequately, but it
costs nearly $200,000 to have a house built to lock-up stage.
Providing your insurer has given you new for old insurance, then you should
    come out okay
but, with some insurance companies, they will try to get out of paying the
    right amount they should
I lost out on a house which burned down as I had landlords insurance on it

when it came to make a claim, the insurance company, told me that with
landlords insurance, I would only get the average price of every house in
the area, whether it be occupied or vacant and derelict, giving me a value
half of what I had paid for it as there were quite a few derelict farm
houses nearby, which of coarse, were taken into the equation

Insurance companies don't own 35 storey skyscrapers because they are good
people and pay out on each and every claim
They don't have a team of inhouse legal experts on the payroll for nothing

nice story, but I'm not sure how a story about someone who underinsured
is in any way relevant. Not, not necessarily, after all, then.

  19. It's relevant in as much as you said you would like your house to have
burned down because you would be rolling in cash
But my story would be only one of many who would have underinsured before
    the firres
They were burned out, but not rolling in cash as you claim you would be

Just for the point of the exercise, lets just assume that everyone who
was underinsured was pretty fucking stupid and that I'm not stupid. You
can put yourself in either camp, but I think I can see which one you are
    aligning yourself with.
