Why's that then? The Halfords stuff is from their Pro range, and
    therefore guaranteed for life.

It's also very, very, very niiiiice.

    No. Trigger's.

He got an award for having the same broom for 20 years, or summat.

It'd only had eight heads and fourteen handles in that time too.

I appreciate this may be the same joke as yours, but this is OF&H
we're talking about, not original humour.

I agree with your point though. Fwiw, I haven't bought SO for ages -
most of my recent purchases have been SO copies, some of them pretty
good. As soon as the SO patents ran out, the copies came out at a
    fraction of the price.
Imo, none of the other makers' ratchets are as good as the SO ones
though. It's worthwhile keeping your eyes open at autojumbles for
genuine SO ratchets; you can pick them up for a couple of quid and you
can buy rebuild kits for them.

The Snappy ones are more slimline in the head area, the Halfords ones
    look a bit clunky.

Plus I already have a set, so I don't need to buy the H/Fords ones ;)

You obviously don't know me at all - it's the passing the 70s I
    lament. The 80s sucked.

not at all; 6 months "between contracts", immediately after moving
    into a house with a ~1300ukp/month mortgage.

Got away with it, just about.

we've recently cut our mortgage payments by about 200 quid/month as
well, which has eased things even further. And house price rises mean
we're not far off 50% equity, which is also nice, in a more long-term
    way.

I've got some other fucker paying mine. Or rather over-paying mine,
as I'm still making my usual mortgage payments. I haven't looked at a
statement for a while, but I reckon I must be at about 50% equity,
too. Should work on getting that down.
